The Stewards received a report from the IHRB Veterinary Officer that Ballybaun Star, placed first, was observed wearing a tongue strap when presented for examination post race, this piece of equipment having not been declared under Rule 194. The Stewards enquired into this matter and called Thomas Gibney, trainer of Ballybaun Star, for an explanation. Thomas Gibney admitted the offence and stated that he applied the tongue strap to his charge as the gelding had always worn one and it would a requirement because of the animals wind. He added that he thought that he had declared the tongue strap and only realised his error when it was brought to his attention after the race. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Thomas Gibney was in breach of Rule 194 (f) by fitting a tongue strap to Ballybaun Star which was not declared under Rule 194 and wearing it in the race. In accordance with the provisions of Rule 194(h) and using their powers under Rules 14 (i) & (ii), the Stewards fined Thomas Gibney €400.

Maxwell admitted that he had exceeded the limit allowed for the use of the whip under the whip guidelines but explained that the first few hits were applied to stop his mount rolling off the final bend before the roadway. He added that he took a fresh hold and his mount ran straight to the finish. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that C.D. Maxwell was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R10(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended C.D. Maxwell for one raceday.

In his evidence, D.P. Maxwell admitted that he had misjudged the amount of times that he had used his whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.P. Maxwell was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. The Stewards enquired into an incident on the flat after the third last hurdle involving No Logic, ridden by S.D. Torrens and Eddies Pride, ridden by R.P. Geoghegan, where No Logic fell in running. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, S.D. Torrens stated that he was keeping out off the used ground and about three parts of a lenght down on Eddies Pride, when that animal rolled in onto his racing line and despite his quick reaction to avoid a heel, he clipped the heels of Eddies Pride causing him to fall in running. R.P. Geoghegan stated that his mount was racing very keen and the race was very congested at that point. He did not believe that he made any deviation of course. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action but did advise R.P. Geoghegan to ride with more awareness.
