P.D. Deegan – Breach of Curragh Training Grounds Regulations

The Referrals Committee, Sean Barry (in the Chair), J.R. Craigie and Michael Doyle met at the Turf Club on 2nd June 2011 to consider the referral of P.D. Deegan, trainer, by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club, in respect of a horse under his care which was found to be using the Curragh Training Grounds on 26th May 2011 without being returned in training.

Evidence was heard from Pat Kelly, Manager Curragh Training Grounds, Paul Hensey, General Manager Curragh Racecourse and Training Grounds and P.D. Deegan.

In his evidence P.D. Deegan explained the background to the omission which was due to a clerical error and was accidental.  He confirmed that the horse concerned has now been returned in training.

Having considered the evidence, the Referrals Committee found that P.D. Deegan was in breach of Regulation R19 and fined him €200.

The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
