Eddie Ahern Referral

The Referrals Committee, Judge Tony Hunt (in the Chair), Sean Barry and J.R. Craigie met at the Stewards Room, Leopardstown Racecourse, Co. Dublin on Sunday, 26th January 2014 to consider the referral of Eddie Ahern (rider) by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.

Mr. Ahern had been made a disqualified person by the British Horseracing Authority on 22nd May 2013 for a period of 10 years from 22nd May 2013 until 21st May 2023 (inclusive) as a result of being found guilty of a number of rule breaches. The matter had been referred to the Referrals Committee under the provisions of Rule 274(i).

The Committee considered the decisions of the Disciplinary Panel and the Appeal Board of the British Horseracing Authority.  They also considered a written submission from Coonan Cawley Solicitors on behalf of Eddie Ahern to confirm that he consented to have the British Horseracing Authority ban reciprocated in Ireland.

Having considered the matter, the Referrals Committee approved the reciprocation of the ban.  As a result Eddie Ahern will be deemed to be a disqualified person in Ireland until the ban imposed by the British Horseracing Authority expires on 21st May 2023.

The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
