328A Corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Profoundly, ridden by A.P. Heskin, and trained by D. McNamara.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence A.P. Heskin stated that his instructions were to jump off towards the rear, settle into a rhythm of jumping and creep into the race without reverting to the whip. He added that he had ridden the filly on her three previous runs and on each occasion found her very difficult to relax without galloping into the base of the hurdles which she did at Galway on the 11th September when he was unseated. In an attempt to correct this he had since schooled her intensively. He stated that after the first circuit he gave her a breather and from there continued to creep into the race. He further added that the filly would in his opinion be suited to better ground over a longer trip.
In his evidence D. McNamara outlined the difficulties concerning the horse’s jumping and temperament both at home and on her previous runs. He explained that today’s instructions were in his opinion the best way to settle his charge and get around safely, while he further added that he likes his horses to run to the best of their ability without reverting to use of the whip. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride but conceded that the filly did have a lot of ground to make up in the closing stages. He was also of the opinion that the filly would benefit from a step up in trip on better ground.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Profoundly was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that A.P. Heskin was in breach of R212, in that he had failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to achieve his best possible placing.
Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore  suspended him for four race days (23rd, 26th, 27th and 28th December).
