The Stewards requested a report from Paul John Gilligan, trainer of the winner Jadanli, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Mr Gilligan reported that his charge disappointed on his penultimate start at Fairyhouse, but in hindsight that race may have come too soon after his good run in the Troytown steeplechase at Navan. Mr Byrne reported that this gelding is a little ungenuine and consequently races in blinkers. He added that in his last race the animal was drawn wide and was therefore obliged to race wide. However, he was pushed even wider and seemed to lose interest. On this occasion the horse was drawn from stall number two and this was more to his liking as he could be covered up and produced a challenge between horses in the straight.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards deemed any interference to be accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.
The Stewards interviewed Lorcan Wyer, Turf Club Clerk of the Course and Willie Gibbons, track foreman, in relation to a rail being inadvertently left across some of the track shortly after the second hurdle.
Evidence was heard from Mr Wyer and from Mr Gibbons, who both apologised for the oversight, stating that they had been very busy with a course inspection that morning and also making numerous alterations to the steeplechase track to make it raceable today.
Having considered the evidence and accepting that both parties had been very busy making adjustments to the track due to the adverse weather conditions, the Stewards advised both Mr Wyer and Mr Gibbons concerning their future responsibilities in this regard and asked that ground staff be informed that they should be vigilant in this regard in future.
B.T. O’Connell, rider of The Tullow Tank, trained by Philip Fenton, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly in this race.
019B Leopardstown Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards granted permission for fences one, three and nine to be omitted from this race and from the remaining Steeplechase at today’s meeting in the interest of safety due to ground conditions.
019C Sandyford Handicap Steeplechase & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that High Desert (GER), trained by A.L.T. Moore, lost a front shoe in running, but was otherwise found to be post race normal.
019D BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Binocular (FR), ridden by A.P. McCoy, and trained by Nicky Henderson (in GB).
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr Henderson stated that he did not give his rider detailed instructions as the jockey knew the horse well. He said the horse was re-appearing after an absence from the racetrack since last March, but had done plenty of work and his weight was identical to his weight at Cheltenham last year. He added that the weather conditions in the U.K. were a hindrance to his preparation of the horse for today’s race. He expressed himself satisfied with the ride, but maintained that the horse is better on better ground.
In his evidence A.P. McCoy confirmed he was not tied into specific instructions but intended to maintain a position tracking Hurricane Fly. From before the second last hurdle he felt he did not have the horse to challenge the winner but hoped to be able to obtain second place. Despite riding out his mount and squeezing him all the way up the straight he was unable to get by the second placed horse. He also added that the horse leaned left towards the running rail up the straight due to tiredness.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Binocular (FR) was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Casey was in breach of Regulation 10 3. (b) in that he continued to hit his mount after his chance of winning or been placed had clearly gone and (g) in that he had used his whip with the arm above shoulder height.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (10th February). The Stewards furthermore advised Mr. Casey to familiarise himself with the Rules pertaining to the whip.
