Irish Racing Calendar, 26th September 2013

The following trainer was fined 200 euros for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provision of Rule 194(v) (vi):- Paul W. Flynn for Marvelous James (lame) at Galway 9th September.

E.D. Delany, trainer of Scooping, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Friday 20th September that his charge has had a wind operation since her last run at Bellewstown 21st August, 2013.

Galway Meeting, 10th September 2013

247A Anglo Printers Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards fined Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Island Villa, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

The Stewards fined M.C. Grassick, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Loving Kind, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

252F Kerry Group Handicap Steeplechase & Noel Henley, trainer of Heavenly Brook, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his charge scoped badly following an endoscopic examination post race.

253E I.T.B.A. Fillies Scheme Hurdle & R. Walsh, rider of Chiltern Hills, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Chiltern Hills at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have a nasal discharge and was found to be coughing post race.

253F Cashen Handicap Hurdle & S.W. Flanagan, rider of Joe Reed, trained by Eoin Christopher McCarthy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

Andrew J. McNamara, rider of Gris Ladera, trained by Colin Bowe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

253G Bank Of Ireland I.N.H. Flat Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Casey Ryback (GB), trained by T.J. Taaffe, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame post race.

Listowel Meeting, 17th September 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-
D.E. Splaine rode Typical Man (GB) (reserve), trained by Donncha Duggan (Race 7).

N.P. Madden, rider of Shanpallas, trained by C. Byrnes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Shanpallas at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have a grazed left stifle post race.

254F Listowel Races Supporters Club Lartigue Hurdle & D.N. Russell, rider of Security Breach, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran flat in this race.

255A Listowel Arms Median Maiden & The Stewards fined A. Oliver, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Show Your Face in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

255B Exchange Inn Ballybunion & Kevin Brodericks Bar Listowel Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Ondeafears, ridden by S. Foley, placed fourth, and Seal Rock (GB), ridden by J.P. O’Brien, unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S. Foley was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him for one race day (4th October).

P.J. Smullen, rider of Bracing Breeze (GB), trained by D.K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount moved poorly throughout this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Bracing Breeze (GB) at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be slightly lame post race.

255F Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards received a report from P.L. Malone, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that S.E. Butler, rider of He’llberemembered, weighed in in at more than 1 ½ lbs above the correct weight following this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.E. Butler was in breach of Rule 231 (iii) and they therefore suspended him for one race day (2nd October).

255H McElligotts Tralee Ltd. Land Rover I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into possible interference at the home bend on the first circuit in this race involving Railway Adella, ridden by Mr P.A. King, placed second, Chute Hall, ridden by Mr M.J. O’Connor, placed third, Mill Forge (GB), ridden by Mr J.J. Burke, placed fourth, and Mag’s Mare, ridden by Miss R. Blackmore, unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

Listowel Meeting, 19th September 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-
S. Foley rode Fast On (reserve), trained by Seamus Fahey (Race 3).

256D Friends Of Tony Wright Memorial Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from P.J. Prendergast, trainer of the winner Sho Girl, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s most recent run.
The trainer reported that this filly has form in soft conditions and is best on very testing ground, which she got today.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Victory Song, trained by A.P. O’Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

J.P. O’Brien, rider of Victory Song, trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground.

256F Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle & B.J. Cooper, rider of Miley Shah, trained by J.P. Kenny, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stumbled and lost his position on the turn out of the backstraight.

B. Hayes, rider of Dazzling Susie, trained by John F. Phelan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running and was therefore pulled up.

256G Devon Inn Hotel Handicap Hurdle & B.J. Cooper, rider of Whispering Hills, trained by D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost its action and was therefore pulled up.

R. Walsh, rider of Victrix Gale, trained by A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not jump fluently in this race.

Listowel Meeting, 20th September 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainers in respect of their non-runners:-.
Ross O’Sullivan, trainer of Popmurphy (GB) (Off feed) - €200.
Eoin Doyle, trainer of Romeo Is Bleeding (Off feed) - €200.

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.

(Intended mount a non runner).
D.N. Russell rode Peter From Paris (reserve), trained by D.E. Prendergast (Race 8).

257A Listowel Printing Works Maiden & K.J. Manning, rider of Twin Focus, trained by J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well until just after the road crossing at the far side of the track.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Twin Focus at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

257B John & Terry Moriarty Memorial Handicap & W.J. Lee, rider of Khelino, trained by Rodger Sweeney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to get an opening to challenge around the final bend and ran on late to finish fourth.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Better Value, trained by J. L. Hassett, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

257D L.M. Carey & Company Handicap & L.F. Roche, rider of Progenitor, trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Knockea, trained by Edward P. Harty, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

257E Guinness Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from J.P. Murtagh, trainer of the winner Rich Coast (FR), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer reported that his charge ran very free in his most recent race over one and a half miles at Down Royal on 22nd June and was given a break to allow him to freshen up since then. The trainer said that today the horse reappeared over a shorter trip and was dropped in from flagfall which allowed him to settle.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

J.P. O’Brien, rider of Piet Mondrian (GB), trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost his action over the final two furlongs.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Piet Mondrian (GB) at the request of trainer and reported the animal to be post race normal.

257F Southampton Goodwill Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed Milton Harris, Authorised representative for Anthony Middleton (in GB), trainer of Chaninbar (FR), concerning the performance of this horse after the animal refused to race after a fair start had been effected.
Evidence was heard from Milton Harris, who stated that this gelding was a kind horse, but had lost his enthusiasm for racing and today was his last chance to redeem himself. He apologised for the inconvenience caused and suggested that hunting with a view to Point to Pointing may be an option for the horse if he showed the enthusiasm.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Chaninbar (FR) did not meaningfully compete and they therefore suspended him for 60 days in accordance with the provisions of Rule 212 (b).

257G John Fletcher Memorial Novice Hurdle & R. Walsh, rider of Shamar (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle todays ground.

Listowel Meeting, 21st September 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
S.A. Shortall replaced J. Brennan on Heathfield, trained by A.J. Martin (Race 1) (Not Qualified - see enquiry).

258A Allman Contracts Limited Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed J. Brennan, rider, and A.J. Martin, trainer, in relation to the rider being nominated to ride Heathfield in this race (a beginners steeplechase) having not ridden in a minimum of three Handicap Steeplechases, Point-to-Points and/or Hunters Chases, contrary to Regulation 1.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence J. Brennan stated that he informed Mr Martin that he was eligible to take the ride in this race which was an oversight on his behalf.
In his evidence Mr Martin stated that R. Walsh was to ride the horse, but he was a late cancellation and the H.R.I. system accepted the nomination of J. Brennan.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards found that J. Brennan was not qualified to ride in this race and allowed the substitution of S.A. Shortall. They further cautioned J. Brennan concerning his responsibility to comply with the provisions of Regulation 1.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Letter Of Credit, trained by James Joseph Mangan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race.

258B Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the last fence involving the winner Dick Dundee (GB), ridden by M.P. Fogarty, and Beneficial Spirit, ridden by K.C. Sexton, placed second. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings.
The Stewards, however, cautioned M.P. Fogarty to ride with more care in the future.

258C Clieveragh Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed R.C. Colgan, rider of Theholeofthemoon, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R C Colgan was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) (frequency).
Having taken his good record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him as to his future use of the whip.

D.J. Condon, rider of Emperor Concerto (GB), trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to lie up with the pace in the early stages of this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Emperor Concerto (GB) at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have a graze to his right fore tendon and was also found to be blowing hard post race.

M.J. Bolger, rider of Mayo Abbey, trained by P. Cluskey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running.

P. Cluskey, trainer of Mayo Abbey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

P. Townend, rider of Too Late To Sell, trained by F. Flood, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running.

258D John Lynch Memorial Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Moyvic, ridden by S.A. Shortall, and trained by A.J. Martin. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence S.A. Shortall stated that his instructions were to sit mid division or three quarters way back, get his mount jumping, give him plenty of daylight and come home as best as he could. He said that in the race his mount jumped poorly so he rode the horse to see out the race. He said that his mount stayed on one paced past tired horses in the straight.
In his evidence A.J. Martin confirmed the instructions and stated that his horse has suffered from sore shins and is weak and backward. He explained that the horse does not show a lot at home and today was a fact finding mission. He said the horse was fit enough to run well today but he expected a lot of improvement. He felt the rider could have finished closer if he had closed on the leaders down the back straight.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer which stated that Moyvic was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainer’s explanation and severely cautioned S.A. Shorthall to ensure he makes more of an effort in future.

258F M.J. Carroll Arro Handicap Hurdle & D.G. Lavery, rider of Rockyaboya, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount accidentally clipped heels in a bunched field on the home turn.

258G Ballygrennane Mares I.N.H. S. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into an incident off the home turn involving the winner Angel Chorus, ridden by Miss S. O’Brien, Rock High Lady, ridden by Mr B. Browne, placed second, Loch Ard Lady, ridden by Ms N. Carberry, placed third, Fennis Moll, ridden by Mr J.T. Carroll, placed fourth, and Iamtoldiamgrand, ridden by Mr P.W. Mullins, placed fifth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

Gowran Park Meeting, 22nd September 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
W.M. Lordan rode Keep On Walking (reserve), trained by A. Oliver (Race 1).

259A Powerstown Stud European Breeders Fund Maiden & M.C. Hussey, rider of Belisarius, trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green, hung right in the straight and accidentally clipped a heel near the finish.

259B Dining Packages On Gowranpark.ie Nursery Handicap & The Stewards interviewed C.R. King, rider of Ava Star, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that C.R. King was in breach of R10(3)(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and also R10(4) in that he had failed to give his mount time to respond.
Having taken his clean previous record in this regard to account, the Stewards therefore cautioned him.
David Wachman, Master of Apprentice Jockey C.R. King, also attended this enquiry.

Mr N.B. Wachman, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Keela at the request of the trainer J.P. Murtagh and reported the animal to have been struck into behind. The horse was referred to the Racecourse Veterinary Surgeon for further examination.

259C(i) Tommy Tiernan Live After Racing Fri Oct 4th Handicap (Division One) &
F. Lynch, rider of Maal, trained by David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount leaned left in the straight.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Zelie Martin, trained by J.S. Bolger, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

259C(ii) Tommy Tiernan Live After Racing Fri Oct 4th Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards requested a report from Patrick Dempsey, Authorised Representative for P.J.F. Murphy, trainer of the winner Wagadoogoochoochoo, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Mr Dempsey reported that this filly joined the trainer this year and disappointed in her first two runs after which she was given a ten week break. He added that the filly reappeared over ten furlongs at Leopardstown and finished so they brought her back in trip to six furlongs for her next race at Naas. He said since that race the trainer had changed the filly’s training regime by including long slow work. Today she raced over one mile and was ridden wide in what was considered to be a poor contest and was delivered with a strong challenge to win.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

259F Gowran Golf Memberships For 2014 €749 Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards enquired into the reason why Sceilg, ridden by D.M. Redmond and trained by J.S. Bolger, was ridden to the start without wearing blinkers as declared under Rule 194 and was consequently withdrawn by Order of the Stewards.
Gerard Flynn, Authorised representative for J.S. Bolger, reported that it was an oversight on his part as he had not recognised the declaration as printed on the racecard.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that there was a breach of Rule 194 (ii)(c)(i) and fined J.S. Bolger €200 through his representative.

The Stewards enquired into an incident over one furlong from the finish involving Teochrios, ridden by R.P. Whelan, and Secret Locket, ridden by L.F. Roche, both unplaced, after it appeared that Teochrios stumbled.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that L.F. Roche had ridden carelessly.
Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (6th and 9th October).

Anastasia O’Brien, rider of Nymph, trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount never travelled and was unable to hold her position in this race.

259G Gowranpark.ie Rated Race & K.J. Manning, rider of Feasta, trained by J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout this race.

Jane M. Foley, trainer of Surreal, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 23rd September that her charge was found to be in season post race.
