Irish Racing Calendar, 29th August 2013

The following trainer was fined €200 for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provision of Rule 194(v) (vi):- Patrick Neville for Killcara Boy (GB) (stone bruise) at Ballinrobe 12th August.

Roscommon Meeting, 19th August 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of her non-runner:-.
Mrs Gillian Callaghan, trainer of Katys Girl (Declared in error) - €200.

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
S. Foley rode Fit The Cove (reserve), trained by H. Rogers (Race 2).
P.T. Enright replaced J.L. Cullen on How You Fixed, trained by Michael J. McDonagh (Race 5) Unwell.
R.P. Treacy rode Ardkilly Acclaim (reserve), trained by Ruaidhri Joseph Tierney (Race 6).
B.R. Dalton replaced D.J. Condon on Mags Millar, trained by Paul Martin Pierce (Race 6) Injured.
K.M. Donoghue replaced D.J. Condon on Time To Work, trained by Gordon Elliot (Race 7) Injured.

222B I.F.A. Race Day Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Shane Lyons, Authorised representative for G.M. Lyons, trainer of the winner Angela’s Dream, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
Shane Lyons reported that this filly won by a short head at Roscommon but ran flat at the Curragh when possibly returning to the track too quickly. He added that she had not raced since 20th July which gave her a chance to freshen up and consequently she returned to her best form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Lucky Kitten (USA), trained by D.K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

W.J. Lee, rider of Iron Major, trained by Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well into the straight, but could not get an opening to challenge. He said that he eventually switched his mount out and the horse ran on well in the closing stages.

S. Foley, rider of Fit The Cove, trained by H. Rogers, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that today’s ground proved too quick for his mount.

G.P. Halpin, rider of Brown Butterfly (GB), trained by Kevin Prendergast, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount sat back in the stalls, missed the break and never travelled in this race.

222F Murray Ambulance Service Mares Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mrs Pauline Gavin, trainer of the winner The Lady Granuaile (USA), regarding the apparent improvement in form of her charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Galway on the 31st July.
The trainer reported that the going description changed to soft at Galway which did not suit her filly and she was eventually pulled up.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.
Mr Donal Gavin, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

A.P. Crowe, rider of Gale Force Lucey, trained by C. Roche, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ducked at the start which resulted in him losing an iron, becoming unbalanced and being unseated.

Sligo Meeting, 20th August 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
A.E. Lynch replaced D.J. Condon on The Black Russian, trained by F.M. Hanley (Race 6) Injured.
N.P. Madden replaced J.L. Cullen on Aintnosanityclause, trained by S.R.B Crawford (Race 6) Injured.

223A Tote Pick6 Auction Race &The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Hilltown Girl, trained by Patrick Martin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be stiff post race.

223B(i) Tote Jackpot Races 3 To 6 Handicap (Division One) & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Irish Kitten (USA), trained by J.A. Nash, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.

223B(ii) Tote Jackpot Races 3 To 6 Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the straight involving Enter The Red, ridden by L.F. Roche, placed fourth, Jembatt, ridden by G.F. Carroll, placed fifth, Erins Gal, ridden by J. A. Heffernan, and Royal Beauty, ridden by D.M. Grant, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that L.F. Roche was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (3rd September).

F.M. Berry, rider of The Hamptons, trained by Niall Madden, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount missed the break in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Brookland Dancer at the request of the trainer, J.J. Lambe, and reported the animal to be post race normal.

223D Tote Placepot €500 Average Dividend Apprentice Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Idlewild (GB), trained by John Joseph Murphy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race.

223E Kilcawley Construction Sligo Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from F.M. Hanley, trainer of the winner The Black Russian, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer reported that he felt the today’s tactics, where the animal was allowed to dictate, suited the horse compared to his most recent run at Ballinrobe. He said the horse had run well at Galway prior to that when allowed to bowl along and seemed to return to that form today. He also felt that the ease in the ground today helped the horse to let himself down better.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

M. Darcy, rider of John Veale (USA), trained by Thomas McLaughlin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

223G Tote 24% Better Than Bookies Maiden Hurdle & T. Dowling, rider of In The Long Grass, trained by J.J. Gault, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount did not act on today’s ground and was therefore pulled up.

The trainer subsequently reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that In The Lost Grass was found to have lost three shoes during the running of this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Popmurphy (GB), trained by Ross O’Sullivan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.

Bellewstown Meeting, 21st August 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
B.A. Curtis replaced A.P. Thornton on Baby Goose, trained by Paul Stafford (Race 2) Unwell.

224A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden & E.D. Delany, trainer of Scooping, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 22nd August that his charge gurgled during the running of this race.

224C(ii) Play The Tote Jackpot Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards interviewed J.T. Gorman, trainer of Elusive Gent, regarding the fact that his charge ran in blinkers and an eyeshield when he was declared to run in an eyeshield only in this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that he mistakenly felt that the equipment he used was an eyeshield but accepted his horse had run with the undeclared equipment and apologised for the oversight.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.T. Gorman was in breach of Rule 194 and reminded him of his responsibilities regarding the declaration of equipment in future.

224E Lougher Stables Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Patrick J. Flynn, trainer of the winner Summer Isles (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer’s representative reported that this filly appreciated the drop back to the minimum trip today, having run poorly over seven furlongs last time. He said that she had run poorly over five furlongs previously, but that was on easier ground. He felt the combination of five furlongs and the better ground today accounted for the improved form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

224G Irishmirror.ie (Q.R) Flat Race & The Stewards received a report from W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that Mr T. Reilly, rider of Fearnwood Girl, trained by Miss Tracy M. Reilly, presented himself at scales to weigh out at 3 lbs overweight.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned, who both stated that they were unaware of the new rule regarding declaration of probable overweight.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed Mr Reilly to ride at 3 lbs overweight but fined him €150 for a breach of Rule 198. The Stewards furthermore cautioned the trainer and rider to familiarise themselves with the Rules pertaining to the declaration and carrying of overweight.

Bellewstown Meeting, 22nd August 2013

225C Lougher Stables Handicap Hurdle & R. Walsh, rider of Regusci, trained by A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount weakened quickly in the straight.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Regusci at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have a small cut on his left pastern but was otherwise found to be post race normal.

225D Bellewstown On Course Bookmakers Mullacurry Cup Handicap Hurdle & D.J. Condon, rider of Benemeade, trained by Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost his position at the first hurdle, hung off the bends and did not travel in this race.

A.E. Lynch, rider of Mister Benedictine (GB), trained by Brendan W. Duke, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground.

225E Bet Online At thetote.com Maiden Hurdle & D.J. Condon, rider of Hilltop Tommy, trained by David Harry Kelly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to be lame post race.

D.E. Splaine, rider of Black Lily, trained by Donal Aidan O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and jumped poorly in this race.

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Tapaigh An Deis, trained by D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up lame.

E.M. Hogan, trainer of Rosshill Pearl, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be blowing hard post race.

J.A. Berry, trainer of Cara Vic, reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, that his charge was found to have a displaced palate following an endoscopic examination post race.

225F Manley Construction Handicap Hurdle & PThe Stewards requested a report from Patrick J. Duffy, trainer of the winner Courtncatcher, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s most recent run.
The trainer reported that, while this horse acts on soft ground, he seemed unable to handle the unusually testing ground at Galway last time. He also felt that the horse appreciated the return to today’s three mile trip.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

Tipperary Meeting, 22nd August 2013

226A Glenvale Stud Maiden & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Swift Action, ridden by D.P. McDonagh, and South Ring, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that D.P. McDonagh was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly.
Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (5th September).

F. Lynch, rider of Barbados Bob (USA), trained by Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung left in this race.

P.J. Smullen, rider of Acting Talent (USA), trained by D. K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle the pace of today’s race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Acting Talent (USA) at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

226C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Premier Nursery Handicap & F.M. Berry, rider of Princess Aloof, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran lethargically in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Princess Aloof at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

226E Thoroughbred Gathering Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Patrick. J. Flynn, trainer of the winner Art Scene, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer reported that the combination of a change in tactics, a drop back in trip and the first time application of a visor, had, in his opinion, brought about today’s improved performance from his charge.
Having considered the report, the Stewards the noted the explanations offered.

G.F. Carroll, rider of Rockview Emperor, trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries, that his mount became upset in the preliminaries and ran free in the early stages of this race.

The Stewards fined J.S. Bolger, trainer of Teochrios, €65 for failing to fit a tongue tie to his charge prior to entering the parade ring for this race.

S=Kilbeggan Meeting, 23rd August 2013

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of riders at this meeting:-.
Mr M.J. Scallan replaced Mr H.D. Dunne on I C Gold, trained by Donal Aidan O’Brien (Race 2) Stewards’ Permission – see enquiry.
A.P. Heskin rode Cherryantor (reserve), trained by I. Madden (Race 4).

227A Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle & T.J. Corcoran, trainer of Don’t Tell Toppy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge burst a blood vessel during the running of this race.

227B Follow Kilbeggan On Facebook Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the circumstances surrounding the late arrival of Mr H.D. Dunne, the declared rider of I C Gold, which necessitated a change of rider in this race.
Evidence was heard from Mr Dunne.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Dunne was in breach of Rule 196 and they therefore fined him €200.


Andrew J. McNamara, rider of Posiden Sea (FR), trained by John Patrick Shanahan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

227D Pat Doyle Memorial Handicap Hurdle & A representative of Shane Nolan, trainer of Elsie Freda, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that this horse burst a blood vessel during the running of this race.

The Stewards fined Gordon Elliott €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Feisty Lass in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

227F Angus Beef Ireland Handicap Steeplechase & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Tales Of Milan, trained by D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Tales Of Milan at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

D.N Russell, rider of Ballyhampshire Man, trained by V.T. Keane, reported to the Stewards’ Secretaries that his mount weakened quickly in this race.

Wexford Meeting, 23rd August 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of his non-runner:-
T.J. O’Mara, trainer of Shaq (Withdrawn by Order of the Stewards – passport irregularity) - €130.

228E Rosslare Handicap & The Stewards received a report from Ms Nicola O’Connor, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, regarding the winner Celestial Prospect (AUS), trained by Martin Brassil.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned and also from Ms O’Connor, who stated that on entering the winners stable she found a bucket which contained some syringes and a number of veterinary sprays and liquid products.
Having considered the report, the Stewards referred the matter to the Chief Executive of the Turf Club for further investigation.

Curragh Meeting, 24th August 2013

229C Flying Five Stakes & The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final 200 yards involving Kingsgate Choice, ridden by K.J. Manning, placed fourth, Abstraction, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, placed fifth, and My Propeller, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, unplaced, after it appeared that My Propeller ran short of room and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and they therefore took no further action.

229G Gain Irish St Leger Trial Stakes & S.M. Gorey, rider of Shu Lewis, trained by Ms M. Dowdall Blake, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in the latter stages of this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Ernest Hemmingway, trained by A.P. O’Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

229H Dublin Bay Cruises Handicap & C.P. Hoban, rider of Foot Perfect, trained by M. Halford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not get a clear passage to make a challenge in this race.

Cork Meeting, 25th August 2013

The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of his non-runner:-.
John Patrick Ryan, trainer of Rock County (off feed) - €200.

The Stewards authorised the following nomination and substitution of rider at this meeting:-.
D.E. Mullins, rode Our La Scala Diva (reserve), trained by Mrs Prunella Dobbs (Race 6).

230A Family Day Out Maiden Hurdle & D.E. Mullins, rider of Director’s Forum, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled in this race.

M.J. Ferris, rider of Mr Utah (GB), trained by Patrick G. Kelly, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled in the early stages of this race, but stayed on past beaten horses in the straight.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Mr Utah (GB), was found to be clinically abnormal post race.

230C Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle & J.P. Holly, rider of John The Soldier, trained by Raymond Hurley, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was found to be lame post race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Mazagee (FR), trained by C. Byrnes, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

230E Follow Cork Racecourse On Facebook Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from William Hayes, trainer of the winner Go Deimhin, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s recent form.
The trainer’s representative reported that the filly disappointed on her last run at Tramore where she got loose before the start. Regarding the penultimate start at Kilbeggan in a novice hurdle, the representative reported that the good to firm ground would not have suited the horse.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted its content.

A.E. Lynch, rider of Cooper’s Joy, trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount kept changing his legs on today’s ground.

230F Munster Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed P.A. Gallagher, rider of the winner Baidin Fheilimi concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.A. Gallagher was in breach of Regulation 10 3(c) in that he had used his whip unnecessarily when his mount clearly had the race won.
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him as to his future responsibilities in this regard.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Lancing (GB), trained by A.J. Martin, was found to be lame post race.

230G Follow Us On Twitter I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr J.T. Carroll, rider of the winner Celtic Fashion, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Carroll was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (e) in that he appeared to hit the horse in an incorrect place.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (10th September).

P.A. Fahy, trainer of Ram Them All, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 26th August that his charge was found to have an upper respiratory tract infection following an endoscopic examination post race.
