188D Tote Win 24% Better Than Bookmakers SP Maiden & The Stewards received a report from Chris Gordon, Turf Club Senior Security Officer, in relation to the training of Like A Diamond, trained by Miss Sharon Dunphy, which was a declared runner in this race.
Mr Gordon reported that this animal was not trained at the registered licensed premises of Miss Dunphy at Drish in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, but at another premises in the neighbourhood.
Evidence was heard from Miss Dunphy, which included her acceptance of the report furnished by Mr Gordon.
Evidence was also heard from Fabian Burke, groom in charge, who had entered the stable yard on a temporary pass to work for Miss Dunphy at this meeting.
Having considered the report and the subsequent evidence, in particular the admission by Miss Dunphy that her runner “Like A Diamond” was not trained from her licenced training establishment as required by Rule 147 (vi), the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of this horse from this race and referred the matter to the Turf Club for further investigation.
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Regusci, ridden by R.C. Colgan, and trained by A.J. Martin.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence A.J. Martin stated that this animal has proven to be difficult to settle on the race track when running in hurdle races and does not have the pace to race in flat races. He instructed R.C. Colgan to jump off at the rear of the field, do not move on the animal, do not hit the animal and finish as best as he could. He stated that he was satisfied with the ride and added that he has no particular future plans for this animal. He also said he was hopeful that one day everything would go right for the horse and that victory may be gained.
In his evidence R.C. Colgan stated that he had consulted with Ruby Walsh about this animal and felt that he was best ridden on his own as he can run blind if he found himself in a claustrophobic position. He added that his mount jumped off slowly and was at the rear of the field early on having settled very quickly. He was flat out in the back straight, ran wide off the bend and stayed on for a good hands and heels ride in the closing stages.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer which stated that Regusci was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainers explanation and advised R.C. Colgan that he must be seen to make a better effort in the future.

Andrew J. McNamara rode Mudaffar (USA) (reserve), trained by Mrs D.A. Love (Race 6).
189A Paddy Smyth Memorial Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Massini’s Trap, ridden by T.E. Doran, and trained by J.A. Nash.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence T.E. Doran stated that his instructions were to jump off fifth or sixth on the rail, creep into the race before ultimately doing his best. He added that the horse jumped adequately towards the rear before staying on very well in the straight. He concluded by accepting that he had left the horse with too much to do and stated that, had he ridden his mount more prominently, he felt that he would have won.
In his evidence Mr Nash confirmed the instructions, but expressed his disappointment with the ride.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer which stated that Massini’s Trap was found to post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that T.E. Doran was in breach of Rule 212(a)(i) in that he had failed to take reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to obtain his best possible place.
The Stewards therefore suspended him for fifty race days (6th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th, 30th and 31st August, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 24th 27th, 28th and 30th September and 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th October – remaining 15 days to be confirmed) and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. However, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.G. Hogan had ridden carelessly (Rule 214).
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (6th August).

Mr Sean Power, trainee Acting Steward, attended this enquiry.
J.P. O’Brien, rider of Snow Queen, trained by A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stood in the stalls when they opened and was reluctant to jump off and lost considerable ground before finally jumping off.

191C Morocco Sorec Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from David Marnane, trainer of the winner Carenza, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s most recent run at Bellewstown on 6th July where she finished 19 lengths ninth of 15 runners.
Mr Marnane reported that the filly ran three times as a two year old and ran well on her first run this year at Fairyhouse, which was her first run in a handicap when she was beaten approximately six lengths. He said he thought the horse would come on for that run and that she would run well again at Bellewstown. He said that, in hindsight, he felt everything happened a bit quickly for her in that competitive Bellewstown handicap on quick ground and she backed off during the race.
He concluded by saying that he felt the application of cheekpieces today sharpened her up and that she was now more experienced, and that those two things combined may have brought about any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
The Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving the winner Carenza, ridden by C.R. King, Glen Ginnie, ridden by R.P. Cleary, placed fifth, and Relay (GB), ridden by D.A. McCormack, unplaced, after it appeared that both Glen Ginnie and Relay (GB) suffered interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, in the presence of David Marnane, trainer of Carenza, representing David Wachman, Master of C.R. King.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that C.R. King was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered and took no further action. In coming to their decision, the Stewards considered this to be exceptional circumstances, in that D.M. Grant had used his whip in such a manner as to avoid causing interference.
The Stewards enquired into an incident early in the straight involving the winner Leah Claire, ridden by D.M. Grant, Cebuano (GB), ridden by S. Foley, placed second, and Baracas (FR), ridden by C.D. Hayes, unplaced, after it appeared that Baracas (FR) suffered interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

J.A. Nash reported that his charge did not act on the rain softened ground at Fairyhouse on 12th June and more recently at Gowran Park on 2nd July where he raced with blinkers fitted, but met with interference when beaten.
