Maiden Race for 5-y-o Geldings

Mr. C.J. Sweeney, rider of Indian Outlook, was placed fourth but failed to weigh in.  Having considered evidence from the rider the Stewards disqualified Indian Outlook from fourth place and fined Mr. Sweeney €150.

Maiden  Race  for  6-y-o  Geldings

The Stewards fined Mr. Gordon Elliott €100 for failing to present the passport in respect of the winner, Deadliest Catch, as required under Regulation 22 (ix).


 Cork Meeting, 2nd January 2012

003D McCarthy Insurance Group 60th Maiden Hurdle & Ms. Debbie Hartnett, trainer of Talking Dan, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Wednesday 11th January that her charge was found to have a soft palate following an endoscopic examination post race.

Fairyhouse Meeting, 11th January 2012

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. P. Fahey for Crystal Earth (late withdrawal).

007A Racegoer’s Package €25 Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Noel Meade, trainer of the winner Mickelson, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Down Royal on the 26th December 2011 over two miles and four furlongs when the horse was placed seventh of eight finishers and was beaten 58 lengths by the winner Lord Redsgirth.
Mr. Meade reported that his charge was held up at Down Royal and travelled well to the turn into the straight, but then weakened on the heavy ground.
 He also reported that his charge was reverting back to two miles today, was ridden prominently and also had the advantage of this first race being run on fresh ground.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.  

A.E. Lynch, rider of Caolaneoin, trained by Mr. Seamus Fahey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung in the closing stages of this race.

007B Costa Coffee Dock Rated Hurdle & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Letter Of Credit, trained by Mr. G.T. Lynch, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout the race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Letter Of Credit was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

Ms. K. Walsh, rider of That’ll Do Me, trained by Mr. T.M. Walsh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount was probably turned out again too quickly having run only 12 days earlier. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that That’ll Do Me was found to be post race normal.

The Stewards fined Mr. Michael McElhone, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Dooney Rock in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

007D Home Of The Ladbrokes Irish Grand National Novice Handicap Hurdle & J.J. Doyle, rider of Killiney Castle, trained by Mr. P.M.J. Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout the race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Killiney Castle was found to be post race normal.

007G Follow Nina Carberry On Twitter Mares I.N.H. Flat Race & Mr. G.M. Mangan, rider of Strange Talk, trained by Mr. Robert Tyner, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled, was beaten after one mile and weakened quickly. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Strange Talk was found to be post race normal.

Dundalk Meeting, 13th January 2012

008A(ii) Group Discounts At Dundalk Handicap (Division Two) & C.P. Hoban, rider of Mrs Batt, trained by Mr. John W. Nicholson, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to hold her position and had to check.

R.P. Cleary, rider of Be Attitude, trained by Mr. Eoin Christopher McCarthy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to get a clear run in the straight.

S.H. James, rider of Shirley Schmidt, trained by Mr. Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well, but ran out of racing room in the straight and weakened quickly. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Shirley Schmidt was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

008C Follow Dundalk On Facebook Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. T. Stack, trainer of the winner Kedleston, regarding the apparent improvement in form of   his charge compared to the horse’s last run at Dundalk in December 2011.
Mr. Stack’s representative reported that the horse missed the break at Dundalk last time, and having been drawn wide, was unable to get an early position. He added that the horse was ridden more prominently today which helped him return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

J.P. Murtagh, rider of Merkel, trained by Mr. Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his saddle slipped slightly forward and that his mount ran very free in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Merkel was found to be post race normal.

008D www.dundalkstadium.com Optional Claiming Maiden & A.P. Thornton, rider of The Yellow Bin, trained by Mr. S. Donohoe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was slowly out of stalls and hung badly. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that The Yellow Bin was found to be lame behind post race.

The Stewards fined Mr. Eoin Doyle, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Meydan Classic in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

008E www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after the turn into the straight involving the winner Flavia Tatiana, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, Syrian (GB), ridden by G.F. Carroll, Ultra Cool, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, and Confidence (USA), ridden by M.E. Rafferty, all unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Mr. Luke Comer Junior, representing Mr. Luke Comer, trainer of Confidence (USA).
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards advised both M.E. Rafferty and G.F. Carroll to ride with more care in future.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Master Melody, trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, was found to be post race normal.

Mr. Adrian McGuinness, trainer of Ultra Cool, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries at Navan on 15th January that his charge scoped badly post race.

008F Dundalk Winter Racing (Q.R) Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Obsession, ridden by Mr. J.T. Carroll, and Westhaven, ridden by Miss N. Carberry, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further action.

Handicap & The Stewards of the Governing Bodies granted permission for the weights to be raised to eight stone ten pounds in relation to the following horses in this race: Golden Flight, Blue Cross Boy (USA), Night Breeze, and Obama’s Baby.
 The weight adjustment was necessary in order to rectify a Horse Racing Ireland technical error.

The Stewards received a report from Mr. W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the failure of J.A. Heffernan, rider of Shaq, placed fifth, to weigh in after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that it was an oversight on his behalf.
Having considered the report, the Stewards disqualified Shaq from fifth place and severely cautioned J.A. Heffernan concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

W.J. Lee, rider of Solid Air (GB), trained by Mr. Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became very tired in the latter stages of this race.

O. Casey, rider of Try Freedom, trained by Mr. Peter Casey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount weakened very quickly in the straight.

Punchestown Meeting, 14th January 2012

009B Racing UK Handicap Steeplechase & Mrs Pauline Gavin, trainer of Sang Bleu, reported to a Turf Club Official that her charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

009C Noel Farrelly Memorial Hurdle & The Stewards fined Mr. W.P. Mullins, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Sergent Guib’s (FR) in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

009F Paddy & Anthony Powell Memorial Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr.P.J. Rothwell, trainer of the winner Paco Jack, concerning the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Tramore, on the 1st January, where he finished last of nine finishers behind the winner Vast Consumption.
Mr. Rothwell reported that his charge was consistent until that run at Tramore. He said on that occasion the horse ran well for about two miles until he weakened in the  bottomless ground and came to a virtual standstill after the final hurdle. He added that the horse has a history of problems with legs and respiration and has also burst blood vessels in the past.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the content of the report. 

The Stewards fined Mrs Denise Foster, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Royal Chukka in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

009G Marathon Travel City Centre Raceday Bus to Punchestown (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Robin Angevin (FR), trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, was found to be post race normal.

Mr. John A. White, trainer of Goodlie News, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 16th January that his charge gurgled in running but was found to have no abnormalities following an endoscopic examination post race.

Navan Meeting, 15th January 2012

010A 2012 Navan Membership Maiden Hurdle & B. Hayes, rider of Jack The Pirate, trained by Mr. J.P. Cahill, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.

The Stewards fined Mr. Michael O’Hare, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Lightning Rory in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

010B Follow Navan On Facebook Hurdle & P. Carberry, rider of Perfect Smile, trained by Mr. Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Perfect Smile was found to be post race normal.

010E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. A.J. Martin, trainer of the winner Oscar Dan Dan, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous run at Thurles on 3rd November 2011.
Mr. Martin reported that his charge disappointed at Thurles where his slow jumping saw him become detached. He added that the horse jumped much better today and the lack of pace helped him to stay in touch. He concluded that the horse was a high class hurdler in the past who returned to form today having jumped more fluently.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Billytheblacksmith, trained by Mr. Michael Hourigan, was found to be lame post race.

010G Trim (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Jock Wilkinson, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Raise Hell, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Mr. Mullins subsequently reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that his charge was found to have an infection following an endoscopic examination by the Racecourse Veterinary Officer.
