Sedgefield Meeting, 30th May 2012

Paxtons and Peregrine Looking After Customers Novice Handicap Hurdle & Mr. L. Byrne, trainer of Eagles Benefit, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 7th June that his charge was found to be very stiff and sore behind post race.

Mr. Thomas Cooper, trainer of River Liane (FR), reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Thursday 7th June that his charge has had a wind operation since his last run at Naas on 11th March 2012.

The following trainer was fined €200 for the non-notification of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Mr. Eoin Doyle for Lamb’s Cross (GB) (lame) at Tramore on 1st June.

Listowel Meeting, 4th June 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: The following riders replaced Mr. K.E. Power (injured):- Mr. P.D. Collins rode Subaroo Blue, trained by Mr. D.M. Christie (sixth race) and Mr. J. Creswell rode Dunfelemy Paddy, trained by Mr. D.M. Christie (seventh race); D.J. Casey replaced Mr. R.O. Harding (See enquiry) on Lady Monksfield (GB), trained by Mr. John Queally (first race); Mr. C. McSweeney rode Railway Storm (See enquiry), trained by Mrs Mary Twohig (sixth race); Mr. B.O. Walsh replaced Mr. R.P. Quinlan (injured) on Big Shu, trained by Mr. Peter Maher (sixth race); Mr. J.T. McNamara rode In the Well (See enquiry), trained by Mrs Audra Busteed (seventh race) and S.G. Carey replaced Mr. D.L. Queally (injured) on Mine Sweeper (GB), trained by Mr. R.H. Lalor (seventh race).

131A Kingdom Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards received a request from Mr. Owen Daly, representing Mr. John Queally, trainer of Lady Monksfield, to substitute the nominated rider Mr. R.O. Harding with D.J. Casey.
Mr. Daly stated that Mr. Harding had sought the ride on this filly as he had schooled her after the previous day’s Ormond point-to-point fixture at Ballingarry had fallen foul to the inclement weather conditions and today’s fixture was subject to an early morning inspection. It was felt that the point to point would not go ahead leaving Mr. Harding free to ride his charge. However, the Ormond point to point passed an early morning inspection and Mr. Harding asked to be released to ride there.
Having considered the request, the Stewards allowed the late nomination of D.J. Casey.

131B Harvest Festival 16th- 22nd September Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. E.J. O’Grady, trainer of the winner Parthian Empire (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous run at Limerick on the 5th May, where he was pulled up in the race won by See You Double.
Mr. O’Grady reported that his charge is a difficult sort to ride and to improve the situation he had changed the bit for today’s race. In addition to this, he felt that his charge was working very well at home and was better suited to today’s left handed track. In his opinion all of these factors had contributed to today’s improved performance.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

131C John J. Galvin Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed B.T. O’Connell, rider of Caim Hill, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that B.T. O’Connell was in breach of Regulation 10.3 in that he had failed to give his mount sufficient time to respond. The Stewards therefore severely cautioned him in this regard for the future.

The Stewards interviewed A.F. O’Neill, rider of Acriveen, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that A.F. O’Neill was in breach of Regulation 10.3 in that he had failed to give his mount sufficient time to respond.
Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (20th June).  

B.J. Cooper, rider of Raz De Maree (FR), trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that he lost his irons and that his mount made a mistake at the second last hurdle.

131D Kevin Broderick Memorial Handicap Steeplechase & Mr. Martin Brassil, trainer of Moville, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

Mr. N.F. Glynn, trainer of Gonebeyondrecall, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

131F Listowel Race Directors Hunters Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed Mrs Mary Twohig, trainer of Railway Storm, concerning her failure to nominate Mr. C. McSweeney to ride her charge in this race before the designated time.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who apologised for the mistake. She explained that she was using the old minitel system (which is now out of commission) with the help of her sister for declarations and explained the problems she encountered with the new system.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the late nomination of Mr. C. McSweeney, but cautioned Mrs Twohig concerning her future responsibilities in this regard.

131G Nun-Day 30th June I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr. Tom Busteed, representing Mrs. Audra Busteed, trainer of In The Well, concerning her failure to nominate a rider before the designated time for her charge in this race.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Busteed who explained the circumstances surrounding the failure to nominate a rider before the designated time and apologised for that failure.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the late nomination of Mr. J.T. McNamara, but cautioned Mrs. Busteed, through her representative, concerning her future responsibilities in this regard.

Naas Meeting, 4th June 2012

132A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Stewards informed Mr. Peter McCreery, trainer of Guess Who, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again. 

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Reaching, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, was found to have lost a right fore shoe in running.

132B Owenstown Stud Stakes & S. Foley, rider of Banna Boirche, trained by Mr. M. Halford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was denied a clear run in the straight.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Ahaaly (GB), trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, was found to be clinically abnormal post race. Subsequently Mr. Paul A. Traynor, Veterinary Surgeon, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Tuesday 12th June, that Ahaaly (GB) having been examined on Monday 11th June at rest was found to have no abnormalities.

132C www.thetote.com BBQ Evenings At Naas Handicap & S.H. James, rider of Zabarajad, trained by Mr. John M. Oxx, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well into the straight but failed to pick up. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Zabarajad was found to be post race normal.

132D Alfred Nobel Rochestown (C&G) Stakes & The Stewards informed Mr. David Wachman, trainer of Cougar Ridge (USA), that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

132E Coolmore Stud European Breeders Fund Fillies Sprint Stakes & The Stewards enquired into an incident (Rule 214) in the home straight involving the winner Sky Lantern, ridden by R. Hughes, Liberating (GB), ridden by F.M. Berry, placed third, Nandiga (USA), ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed fourth, Scream Blue Murder, ridden by W.M. Lordan, placed fifth, and Verbal Honesty, ridden by K.J. Manning, unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the interference was caused by general bunching and they therefore took no further action.

Downpatrick Meeting, 5th June 2012

133A Fun For All The Family Handicap Hurdle & Mr. F.G. Hand, trainer of Bank The Bucks, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to be lame on his off fore post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

133B Cool Kidz Admission Maiden Hurdle & P. Carberry, rider of Westhaven, trained by Mr. Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference due to fallen horses at the hurdle past the stands. He also reported that his mount was found to be bleeding from both nostrils post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

133C Plenty To Do Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards received a report from Mr. J.P. McKeown, rider of Clonsilla Affairs, stating that his mount slipped up independently three furlongs from the finish and brought down Inner Voice (USA).
Having considered the report, the Stewards took no further action.

K.M. Donoghue, rider of Coldwinters, trained by Mrs Gillian Callaghan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to be very lame post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

133D Fashion On The Field Beginners Steeplechase & Mr. B. O’Neill, rider of Holyville, trained by Mr. Colin Bowe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount may not have handled today’s ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Holyville was found to be post race normal.

133G St Patrick’s Trail Ladies I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Ms. K. Walsh, rider of Ironmill Lad, placed second, concerning her use of the whip (Regulation 10) in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion Ms. Walsh was in breach of Regulation 10 2 (f) in that she had used her whip with excessive frequency and Regulation 10 3 in that she had failed to give her mount time to respond.
Having taken her record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended her for one race day (20th June).

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Ironmill Lad, trained by Mr. John Joseph Hanlon, was found to be post race normal.

 Fairyhouse Meeting, 6th June 2012

134C Follow Fairyhouse On Twitter Maiden & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the final 50 yards involving the winner Hi Emperor, ridden by F. Lynch, and An Cat Dubh, ridden by K.J. Manning, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
 Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.

A.P. Thornton, rider of Ariahey (USA), trained by Mr. J. Larkin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount gurgled in running.

134D La Bucca Restaurants Handicap & R.P. Cleary, rider of Clenaghcastle Lady, trained by Mr. Adrian Costello, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran keenly early on, hung in the straight and was eased close home. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Clenaghcastle Lady had a sore left fore shin, but was otherwise found to be post race normal.

134E Follow Us On Facebook Fillies Maiden & J.P. O’Brien, rider of Along, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became fractious in the stalls and never travelled in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Alone was found to be post race normal.

134F(i) Ratoath Handicap (Division One) & The Stewards interviewed M.M. Monaghan, rider of the winner Morethanafeeling, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that M.M. Monaghan was in breach of Regulation 10 2 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive force and with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (21st and 22nd June).  

134F(ii) Ratoath Handicap (Division Two) & The Stewards requested a report from Ms. Kate McGivern, representing Ms. Joanna Morgan, trainer of the winner Xsquared, regarding the apparent improvement in form of the horse compared with his previous run at Dundalk where he finished ninth of 14.
Ms. McGivern reported that this horse raced over hurdles the previous week and this appears to have sweetened him up. She further reported that the horse has raced in cheek pieces before but was fitted with blinkers on this occasion and that, combined with a step up in trip here, all combined to produce the apparent improvement in form today.  
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

 The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Stephen McCarthy, representing Mr. John J. Coleman, trainer of Massabini (USA), placed second, regarding the apparent improvement in form of the horse compared with his previous run at The Curragh where he finished eighth of nine.
Mr. McCarthy reported that this horse was running in cheek pieces for the first time today.  He said the horse had worked well in them during the week and he felt that they improved the gelding’s concentration on this occasion.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

Tipperary Meeting, 7th June 2012

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: R.M. Power replaced D.J. Condon (Stewards permission) on Glaczer Flyer, trained by Mrs Denise Foster (third race) and S.E. Butler rode Tornado King (reserve), trained by Mr. Seamus Fahey (third race).

135A www.tipperaryraces.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Red Cert, trained by Mr. T.J. Taaffe, was found to be clinically abnormal post race.

A.D. Leigh, rider of Subtle Leader, trained by Mr. Sean Byrne, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount choked in running.

135B Tipperary Racecourse Supporters Club Maiden Hurdle & P.A. Gallagher, rider of Shinahwil, trained by Mr. Desmond Kenneally, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running.

135C Youth Raceday At Tipperary Handicap Hurdle & Miss K.J. Harrison, rider of Hang On Groovy, trained by Mrs C. Harrison, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and was therefore pulled up.

S.W. Flanagan, rider of Seenya, trained by Mr. David A. Kiely, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and was pulled up lame.

135E Tipperary Racecourse Supporting Tipperary Excel’s Simon Ryan Theatre Beginners Steeplechase & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Marlay Park, trained by Ms. Margaret Mullins, had a graze on his right hind cannon, but was otherwise found to be post race normal.

S.W. Jackson, rider of Vinnes Friend, trained by Mr. Eoin Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount wore earplugs and ran very free. He also reported that the horse ideally needs good ground and may need to revert back to a trip of about two miles.

135F Follow @ TipperaryRaces on Twitter Handicap Steeplechase & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Rudi Trucker, trained by Mr. James Joseph Mangan, was found to be post race normal.

135G Schooling At Tipperary I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards fined Mr. Edward U. Hales, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Bossgodisco, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

Leopardstown Meeting, 8th June 2012

136B Bipolar Empire Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards fined Mr. Patrick G. Harney, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Crystal Idea, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

136C RSM Farrell Grant Sparks Handicap & The Stewards fined Mr. K.J. Condon, trainer of Keep It Cool, €65 for failing to fit a tongue tie to his charge prior to entering the parade ring for this race.

Mr. E.J. O’Grady, trainer of Capellanus, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge ran in snatches and weakened quickly turning for home. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Capellanus, was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

136D Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving the winner Midnight
Soprano, ridden by C.D. Hayes, and Unaccompanied, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed third, after it appeared that slight interference took place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.
The Stewards also enquired into an incident shortly after the turn into the straight involving Sadlers Rock, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, placed second, and Eternal Heart, ridden by J.P. O’Brien, placed fourth, after it appeared that slight interference took place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

136F Live At Leopardstown Festival Of Music & Racing Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Adrian McGuinness, trainer of the winner Pivot Bridge (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge particularly compared with the horse’s previous run at Listowel on the 3rd June when he finished fifth of seven and was beaten 11 lengths.
Mr. McGuinness reported that Pivot Bridge (GB) is a big horse, at least 16 3 hands, and that he was having his first run of the season at Listowel over a distance of one mile. He said that a combination of stepping up in trip to one mile two furlongs and a more galloping track today may have brought about any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

  
136G Nijinsky Stakes & J.P. O’Brien, rider of Tower Rock, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Tower Rock lost his left fore shoe in running and was subsequently found to be lame post race. Samples were taken for analysis.

Navan Meeting, 9th June 2012

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. M. Halford for Mea Parvitas (declared in error).

137A Lynn Lodge Stud European Breeders Fund Median Auction Maiden & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Spinacre, trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, was found to be post race normal.

137B Trim Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Red Sea Poll, trained by Mr. P.D. Deegan, was found to be post race normal.

137C Meath Apprentice Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Measured Approval, trained by Mr. Patrick J. Flynn, was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.

137E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & D.M. Grant, rider of Blakes Ace, trained by Mr. Liam McAteer, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green in the early stages of this race.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Maid To Master, trained by Mrs John Harrington, was found to be lame post race.

137F Racing Again June 15th Handicap & The Stewards interviewed S. Foley, rider of the winner Cave Artist, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S. Foley was in breach of Regulation 10 2 (a) in that he had used his whip in front of the saddle while held in the forehand position and was also in breach of Regulation 10 2 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (23rd June). 

The Stewards interviewed F. Lynch, rider of He’s Got Rhythm, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that F. Lynch was in breach of Regulation 10 2 (a) in that he had used his whip in front of the saddle while held in the forehand position.
Having taken his record into account, the Stewards therefore severely cautioned him as to his future behaviour in this regard.

Curragh Meeting, 10th June 2012

138C Connolly’s Red Mills China Partnership Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. J.P. Fogarty, trainer of the winner Kateeva, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with her previous two runs at Tipperary on the 3rd May over five furlongs on heavy ground and on the 24th May again over five furlongs on good to firm ground.
Mr. Fogarty reported that the race at Tipperary on the 3rd May was run in very testing conditions which did not suit the filly. In relation to her run at the same venue on the 24th May, Mr Fogarty said that he was of the opinion that the good to firm ground was again most unsuitable for his charge. He stated that she has won over both five and six furlongs on ground described as soft, yielding to soft and standard. He felt that the application of the tongue strap had no bearing on today’s run and could only say that today’s unexpected victory was possibly as a result of the underfoot conditions and the six furlong trip.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it’s content.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Notgonnagiveup, trained by Mr. Richard J. Walker, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount was checked before the marker poles.

138F Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap & C.D. Hayes, rider of Lucciola, trained by Mr. P.D. Deegan, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount hung badly throughout this race.

138G Chinese Irish Cultural Academy Handicap & The Stewards interviewed C.P. Hoban, rider of Filatore, placed third, concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that C.P. Hoban was in breach of Regulation 10 2(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (26th and 27th June).
Mr. Peter N. Reynolds, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. Raymond Samuel Martin acted as Chairman. 

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Tibet, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
