258C Deacy Gilligan H'dle

J.B. Foley, rider of Quirt Evans trained by David M.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount received interference after the last hurdle.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference where the runners met the running rail after the last hurdle involving Quirt Evans, ridden by J.B. Foley, placed second and Macgiloney, ridden by D.G. Hogan, placed first, where it appeared that Macgiloney moved inward and may have impeded Quirt Evans who was challenging when racing closest to the running rail. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, J.B. Foley stated that Macgiloney had jumped the second section of the final hurdle and then moved in towards the running rail which resulted in his own mount being taken off a line. D.G. Hogan stated that his mount had jumped the final hurdle very high and in his opinion the island hurdle was not set in line with the running rail and he rejoined the rail in what he believed was keeping a straight racing line. He added that he was not aware of the challenger and had not heard any shout from the rider. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that while Macgiloney had caused interference to Quirt Evans, he did not improve his finishing position as a result of this interference so they made no alteration to the Judge's placings. They did, however, consider that D.G. Hogan had caused the interference by riding carelessly, this being a breach of Rule 214. Having taken his good previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended D.G. Hogan for two racedays.

The Stewards enquired into reason why D.G. Hogan, trainer and rider, had dismounted from his mount Macgiloney before reaching the appointed place for unsaddling his winner this being a failure to comply with Rule 227 (i). D.G. Hogan stated that while entering the parade ring post race an experienced horseman shouted to him that his mount looked a shade lame. In a reaction in the best interests of the horses welfare he dismounted immediately and undone his tack. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Drifting Back, trained by E. McNamara, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race, had a delayed recovery and was showing possible signs of heat stress.

258G Ir. Stallion Farms EBF (M) INH Flat Race

The Stewards interviewed Mr M. McGuane, rider of Jesina, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence Mr M. McGuane stated that his filly got lonely in front and began to roll around. He added that he applied the whip to keep his mount concentrating and up to her work. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr M. McGuane was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned Mr M. McGuane on this occasion.
