Cawley stated that he was in a tight finish and the extra hit was in the heat of the moment. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that P.J. Cawley was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous clean record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned P.J. Cawley on this occasion.

C.A. Murphy reported that his charge lined up wide at Clonmel but missed the break, was detached going to the first hurdle and was unable to get into the race thereafter. He also referred to the run at Down Royal on the 3rd May where his charge was going to be placed but was taken out of the race by a loose horse at the final hurdle. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

The Stewards requested a report from Emmet Mullins, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Blackstair Rocco, placed first, as compared with its previous run at Punchestown Festival meeting on the 27th April when fourteenth of twenty two finishers. Michael Molloy, Authorised representive of Emmet Mullins, reported that todays race was an 80-95 rated race which was a big drop in class from the contest at Punchestown. Following a request from Mrs Ann Mooney, trainer, to explain her reason for the late withdrawal of her charge King's War, the Stewards convened to consider the matter. Mrs Ann Mooney explained that the track was presented in very good condition but having walked the track with her husband, N.H Jockey Martin Mooney, they were of the opinion that the ground had dried significantly which would render it unwise to run their animal which had previous veterinary issues. Having considered the matter, the Stewards informed Mrs Ann Mooney that the reason for the late withdrawal of King's War was accepted and no penalty would be imposed.

160E Island Garden Rooms H'cap H'dle

Following a request from Paul Traynor, trainer, to explain his reason for the late withdrawal of his charge Shumaker, the Stewards convened to consider the matter. Paul Traynor explained that the track was presented in very good condition but having walked the track he was of the opinion that the ground had dried significantly and gone fast which would render it unwise to run their animal which had previous veterinary issues. Furthermore his runner in an earlier race was not one hundred per cent post race. Having considered the matter, the Stewards informed Paul Traynor that the reason for the late withdrawal of Shumaker was accepted and no penalty would be imposed.

M.J. Bolger, rider of Place Des Vosges trained by Mark Fahey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled in the early part of this race.

Mr D. O'Connor, rider of Whispering Pines trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up as she felt lame having lost her action behind.

The Stewards interviewed Mr M.J. Sweeney, rider of Littel Flour, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In evidence, Mr M.J. Sweeney admitted that he had breached the whip guidelines. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr M.J. Sweeney was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration and pursuant to R10(6)(a), the Stewards suspended Mr M.J. Sweeney for six racedays.

Following a request from B.G. Crawford, Authorised representative for S.R.B. Crawford, trainer, to explain his reason for the late withdrawal of his charge Lily Du Berlais (GB), the Stewards convened to consider the matter. B.G. Crawford explained that the track was presented in very good condition as suggested by the trainer who had walked the track last evening but following one of their earlier runners today which finished lame and having sought the opinion of their rider P.E. Corbett, they were of the belief that the ground had dried significantly and gone fast which would render it unwise to run their animal. Having considered the matter, the Stewards informed S.R.B. Crawford, through his Authorised representative, that the reason for the late withdrawal of Lily Du Berlais (GB) was accepted and no penalty would be imposed.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving The Gossiper, ridden by M.P. O'Connor, placed first and Esperti, ridden by Mr S. Perry, placed second, where it appeared that The Gossiper continued to drift towards the near rail and may have interfered with Esperti. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In evidence, Mr S. Perry stated that The Gossiper kept coming across towards his mount which put off his horse. He added that he had to check when left against the running rail. M.P. O'Connor stated that he had his whip in the left hand when his mount began to hang very badly to the left and despite all his strength he was unable to straighten him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that interference had taken place but The Gossiper had not improved his placing over Esperti in so doing and therefore made no alteration to the Judges placings and took no further action.

The Stewards received a report from Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Starter,Mr J.R. Banahan, that M.P. O'Connor, rider of The Gossiper had failed to walk to the marker poles despite his warning to do so. Evidence was heard from the starter and rider concerned. In evidence, Mr J.R. Banahan stated that he had clearly instructed the riders to walk to the marker poles but M.P. O'Connor had disobeyed him. M.P. O'Connor accepted that he had failed to walk to the marker poles as requested. Having viewed the recording of the start and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that M.P. O'Connor was in breach of Rule 208(iii). Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended M.P. O'Connor for two racedays.
