The Stewards received a request from Joseph G. Murphy to substitute L.F. Roche with G.F. Carroll on Orchis. Evidence was heard from Joseph G. Murphy and from Jockeys Agent K. O'Ryan. Joseph G. Murphy stated that he was in Newmarket on the day of declarations and it was always his intention for G.F. Carroll to ride Orchis along with his other declared runners today. K. O'Ryan stated that he had mistakenly declared L.F. Roche instead of G.F. Carroll and was unaware of his mistake until 12.20pm which was after the deadline for jockey declarations. He added that he informed the office of the governing bodies immediately and had cleared this with L.F. Roche. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards allowed the replacement on this occasion under the provisions of Regulation 3 as they were satisfied the request was reasonable and took no further action other than to remind K. O'Ryan of his responsibilities in this regard.

J.M. Sheridan, rider of Trinity Road trained by Jack W. Davison, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount reared up when the stalls opened.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final furlong involving Goa Gajah (USA), ridden by M.P. Sheehy, placed third, Spirit Genie, ridden by S. Foley, placed second, and Bossy Parker, ridden by J.A. Powell, placed first, where it appeared Spirit Genie was carried left by Bossy Parker. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. M.P. Sheehy stated that he had to take a check when Bossy Parker crossed in front of him. S. Foley stated that his mount got carried left and suffered intimidation which in his opinion may have cost him the winning of the race. J.A. Powell stated that his mount was hanging left and he tried correcting him first with the whip before putting it down and correcting with his reins but in his opinion he did not improve his finishing position as a result of the interference. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action..
