T. Stack / Drayton – Prohibited Substance
Curragh – 26th March 2006

The Referrals Committee, Mr. G.A. Holmes (in the Chair), Mrs. Joan Moore and Mrs. J.O. Onions met at the Stewards Room, Curragh Racecourse, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on Wednesday, 7th June to enquire into a report received from BHP Laboratories, Limerick that Methylprednisolone was present in a sample taken from Drayton following his win in the Tally Ho European Breeders Fund 2-y-o Maiden at the Curragh on 26th March 2006.

Under Rule 20 (v) Methylprednisolone is a prohibited substance.

Evidence was heard from Mr. S.W.D. McIlveen, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, Mr. James Stack, Assistant Trainer to Mr. T. Stack and Mr. Vincent O’Connor, Mr. Stack’s Veterinary Surgeon.

Having considered the evidence, the Committee fined Mr. Stack €130.  The Committee noted that the fine would have been waived had they the power to do so.  In making the finding the Committee accepted that Mr. Stack was innocent of any wrongdoing.  The Committee also noted that Methylprednisolone had shown up in Drayton’s sample 22 days after the drug was administered.

As a result of the decision the Committee disqualified Drayton from first place in accordance with the provisions of Rule 21 (ii) and ordered that the records be amended to read as follows:

First: Latin Walk
Second: Miss Beatrix
Third: Gee Kel
Fourth: Millenium Sun

The case was presented by Mr. Denis Egan, Chief Executive.
