Referral Hearing - Paul Magnier

Paul Magnier / Breach of Curragh Training Grounds Regulation

The Referrals Committee, Dr. Gordon Holmes (in the Chair), Mrs. J.O. Onions and Mr. Peter N. Reynolds met at the Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 5th May 2009 to consider the referral of Paul Magnier, trainer, by Denis Egan, Keeper of the Matchbook, in respect of a horse under his care which was found to be using the Curragh Training Grounds on 25th February 2009 without being returned in training.

Evidence was heard from Paul Hensey, General Manager, Curragh Racecourse and Training Grounds, Pat Kelly, Manager of Curragh Training Grounds and Paul Magnier.

Having considered the evidence the Committee found that Mr. Magnier was in breach of Rule and Order 24 and fined him €200.  The Committee noted that under the Rules they had no discretion to waive the fine once a breach of rule was determined.  In view of the evidence presented, they asked the Stewards of the Governing Bodies to consider whether or not the fine should be waived.

The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
