Ms. Mary Louise Hallahan / Grianan – Clonmel, 7th May 2009

The Referrals Committee Mrs. J.O. Onions (in the Chair), Ms. Meta Osborne and Mr. J.R. Craigie met in the Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 29th May to consider the referral of Ms. Mary Louise Hallahan and Grianan following the running of the Clonmel Thanks M H Designs Beginners Steeplechase.  During an enquiry into the poor performance of Grianan at Clonmel, the Stewards found that the horse had burst blood vessels in the past and as that was the fourth occasion that this had occurred,  the Stewards therefore referred the matter to the Referrals Committee.

The Committee considered written evidence from Ms. Mary Louise Hallahan, who confirmed that the horse would not run again.

Having considered the evidence, the Committee suspended the horse from racing for two years with effect from 29th May 2009.

The case was presented by Mr. Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Irish Turf Club.
