Clonmel, 19th March, 2009.

The Referrals Committee, Mr. Peter N. Reynolds (in the Chair), Mr. John G. Moloney and Mr. B.J. Fitzsimmons, met in the Stewards Room at Punchestown Racecourse, Punchestown, Naas, Co. Kildare, on Tuesday 28th April, 2009, to consider a report from BHP Laboratories in Limerick that the biological fluid sample taken from “Florida Pal (GB)” following its win in the Slievenamon Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel on 19th March, 2009, was found to contain Caffeine which under Rule 20 (v) is a Prohibited Substance. 

Evidence was heard from Mr. W.P. Mullins, Trainer, Mr. Andrew Tyrrell, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, and Mr. Dermot Purcell, BHP Laboratories.  Having considered the evidence the Committee fined Mr. Mullins €130 and disqualified “Florida Pal (GB)” from first place and ordered the record be amended to read as follows:-

First:  Clarkey
Second: Fools Rush
Third:  Good Man Sir
Fourth: Missy O’Brien

The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
