Mr. D.K. Weld - “Bobs Pride” Prohibited Substance

Mr. D.K. Weld  -  “Bobs Pride” Prohibited Substance
Fairyhouse, 8th November, 2006.

The Referrals Committee, Dr. Gordon A. Holmes (in the Chair), Mr. P.J.A. O’Connor and Mrs. J.O. Onions, met at the Stand House Hotel, The Curragh, Co. Kildare, on Tuesday, 23rd January, 2007, to consider a report from BHP Laboratories in Limerick that the biological fluid sample taken from “Bobs Pride” following its win in the St. Margarets Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse on 8th November, 2006, tested positive for a Prohibited Substance called Tranexamic Acid.  Under Rule 20 (v), Tranexamic Acid is a Prohibited Substance.  The Committee heard evidence from Mr. Mark Weld, representing Mr. D.K. Weld, Trainer, and from Mr. S.W.D. McIlveen, Turf Club Veterinary Officer.

Having considered the evidence the Referrals Committee found Mr. Weld to be in breach of Rule 148 (ii), fined him €130 and disqualified “Bobs Pride” from first place, ordering the result to be amended accordingly, as follows:-

First:  Davorin
Second: The Budgee (GB)
Third:  Chief Oscar

However the Committee waived the fine because they were satisfied that the substance was administered unknowingly and the trainer had taken all reasonable precautions to avoid a breach of the Rule.

The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Brian Price, Wilkinson and Price Solicitors, Naas, Co. Kildare.
