K.J. Manning Appeal - Navan, 12th June 2009

The Appeals Body, Division One, Mr. Frank Ward (in the Chair), Mr. Martin P. O’Donnell and Mrs. J.O. Onions met in the Stewards Room, Naas Racecourse, Naas, Co. Kildare, on 24th June 2009 to consider an appeal from K.J. Manning, rider, against the decision of the Acting Stewards at Navan on 12th June 2009 when, following the running of the Christy Hughes Celebrating his 90th Birthday Handicap, he was suspended for two racedays for careless riding.

Evidence was heard from W.M. Lordan, rider of The Shy Lady, D.M. Grant, rider of Abundant Spirit, J.A. Heffernan, rider of Leah Claire, S. Foley, rider of Tradewinds (GB) and K.J. Manning, rider of The Ride Aint Free.  Videos of the race were also reviewed.

Having considered the evidence, the Appeals Body found that K.J. Manning was not guilty of careless riding and allowed the appeal.

The case was presented to the Appeals Body by Mr. Denis Egan, Chief Executive, Irish Turf Club.  K.J. Manning was represented by Mr. Andrew Coonan, Coonan Cawley Solicitors, Naas, Co. Kildare.
