J.P. O’Keeffe
Random Stable Inspection – 1st June 2010

The Referrals Committee, Philip Caffrey (in the Chair), C.E. O’Sullivan and Mrs. T.K. Cooper met in the Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 9th July to consider a report from Andrew Tyrrell and Mark Carroll, Turf Club Officials, following a visit to the yard of the trainer J.P. O’Keeffe on 1st June 2010 which revealed that three of the five horses returned in training were not at his premises on the day of the inspection.  The matter had been referred to the Referrals Committee for further consideration by Denis Egan, Chief Executive.

The Committee considered written evidence from J.P. O’Keeffe who accepted that the horses were not present and outlined where each of them was. He also confirmed that he would deal with such administrative matters immediately should they arise again in the future. They also noted assurances given by Mr O’Keeffe’s wife Una who represented Mr O’Keeffe at the hearing

Having considered the evidence, the Committee found J.P.O’Keeffe guilty of a breach of Rule 148(vi) and imposed a fine of €130 in respect of each of the three horses that he omitted to return out of training. (total fine €390).

The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club
