John Henry Doab Referral

John Henry Doab – Listowel, 24th September 2006

The Referrals Committee Dr. Gordon A. Holmes (in the Chair), Mr. Edward Flannery and Mrs. J.O. Onions met at the Standhouse Hotel, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 2nd November 2006 to consider the referral by the Acting Stewards at Listowel of John Henry Doab (registered stable employee of E. McNamara), who ran on to the steeplechase track as the leaders approached the finish of the Dawn Pure Orange Juice Beginners Chase and then subsequently ran back under the rail just before the horses reached him.

Evidence was heard from John Henry Doab and a video of the incident was also viewed.

Having considered the evidence the Committee fined John Henry Doab €100 and cautioned him regarding his future behavior.  They also requested:-

(i)    That the film of the incident be referred to the Licensing Committee for consideration.
(ii)    That the Listowel Racecourse Executive be notified of the need to improve security in this area.
(iii)    That the matter also be referred to the Turf Club Head of Security, Mr. James P. Johnston, to evaluate what changes need to be made to ensure that such incidents don’t happen again.

The case was presented by Mr. Brian Price, Wilkinson & Price Solicitors, Naas, Co. Kildare.
