D.T. Hughes - Siegemaster - Prohibited Substance

The Referrals Committee, Mr. P.J.A O’Connor (in the chair), Mr. Charles C. Cunningham and Mr. C.E. O’Sullivan, met in the Turf Club Offices, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on Wednesday, 6th February 2008, to enquire into a report received from BHP Laboratories in Limerick that Theophylline was present in the biological fluid sample taken from “Siegemaster” following its win in the Curragha Maiden Hurdle at Fairyhouse on 15th December 2007.  Under the schedule of Prohibited Substances published pursuant to Rule 20(v) Theophylline is a prohibited substance.

Evidence was heard from Mr. S.W.D. McIlveen, Senior Turf Club Veterinary Officer and D.T. Hughes, Trainer.

Having considered the evidence the Referrals Committee disqualified “Siegemaster” from first place, ordering the result to be amended accordingly as follows:-

First:  Good Fella
Second: Jack Soho
Third:  Ellas Cavallo
Fourth:  Hello Kitty

They also fined D.T. Hughes €200 and ordered that the fine be waived under the provisions of Rule 148(ii).

The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Denis Egan, Keeper of the Matchbook.
