Charles Coakley / Charging Indian Referral

Charles Coakley / Charging Indian Referral
Galway, 1st August 2010

The Referrals Committee, Judge Tony Hunt (in the Chair), Philip Caffrey and Mrs. J.O. Onions met at the Turf Club on 13th August 2010 to consider the referral of Charles Coakley, trainer, by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club, in respect of the circumstances surrounding the return of Charging Indian in training by him on 29th July 2010 prior to the horse being declared to run at Galway on 1st August 2010, in view of the fact that Charging Indian had at no time been transferred from the Curragh to Mr. Coakley’s yard prior to it being presented to run at Galway.

Evidence was heard from M.F. O’Donoghue and Mark Carroll, Turf Club officials, Ms. Claudia Reiss, stable employee and Charles Coakley.

Having considered the evidence the Committee found that Charles Coakley was in breach of Rules 147(vi) and 272 and fined him €750 in respect of each rule breach (€1,500 in total).  They also awarded costs of €200 to the Turf Club.

The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
