A.J. Martin Referral - Curragh, 20th March 2011

A.J. Martin Referral – Curragh – 20th March 2011

The Referrals Committee, Neville O’Byrne (in the Chair), Sean Barry and Mrs. Valerie Cooper met at the Turf Club, The Curragh, Co. Kildare on 7th April 2011 to consider the referral of A.J. Martin (trainer) by the Stewards at the Curragh on 20th March 2011, when following the running of the www.thetote.com Irish Lincolnshire, they were unable to enquire into the running and riding of Osirixamix as Mr. Martin was not in attendance and neither had he lodged notification of an authorised representative in accordance with the provisions of Rule 147(v).

At the outset Denis Egan told the Committee that Osirixamix had been scoped by the racecourse vet at the Curragh and was found to have “low grade blood and mucus” during the examination.  This information was not available to the Curragh Stewards when the enquiry was initiated.

A.J. Martin accepted that he was in breach of Rule 147(v) and explained the background to why the notification of an authorised representative was not lodged.

Having considered the evidence, the Committee noted the veterinary certificate which was lodged and in view of the findings did not conduct a running and riding enquiry.  The fined A.J. Martin €130 in respect of the breach of Rule 147(v).

The case was presented by Denis Egan, Chief Executive of the Turf Club.
