Dermot Weld withdraws objection to Curragh Developments

The Turf Club Senior Steward, Pierce Molony, and Dermot Weld announced today that following discussions, Dermot Weld has withdrawn all objections to the Curragh Racecourse Redevelopment. Mr. Weld had lodged an objection to Bord Pleanala for the construction of the new road as he was concerned about the environmental impact.

Commenting on the withdrawal of the objection, Pierce Molony said that he appreciated Mr. Weld’s concerns at all times and he was happy that the Turf Club’s professional advisors had alleviated his concerns.  Furthermore, he was very grateful to him for acknowledging that the Irish industry needed the world class facilities proposed for the Curragh.

Editors Note:

1.    Kildare County Council had originally granted planning permission for the construction of the road and construction of the hotel in August, 2005.  This decision was appealed to Bord Pleanala by three objectors.

2.    If Bord Pleanala uphold the decision of Kildare County Council, plans will be lodged for the new stand immediately and the construction of the new road will commence shortly afterwards.  It will be necessary to complete the road prior to any work commencing on the new stand or hotel.
