The Stewards requested a report from Emmet Mullins, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Tornado Watch, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge was having its third run for him having disappointed previously when running left handed. He said that having reviewed the previous form of his charge, he noticed that all previous wins had come about racing right handed. He felt that a combination of a drop back in class and a liking for a right handed track, had brought about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

078E 5 Lamps H'cap S'chase

The Stewards requested a report from Colin Bowe, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Lacken Bridge, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge had disappointed on previous runs having jumped poorly. Since then his charge received plenty of schooling and the trainer attributed today's improved performance to a clear round of jumping, over fences that were more to his liking. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

P.T. Enright, rider of Caoimhe Diva trained by Daniel John Howard, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount gurgled and was pulled up thereafter.

078F Outcider Hunters S'chase

Mr B. O'Neill, rider of Glorious Galway trained by D.McNamara, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly and was pulled up thereafter.

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. W. Flemming, that Mr D.P. Murphy, declared rider of Sandycove Island, trained by Ruaidhri Joseph Tierney, had weighed out at 2 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that this was the case and stated that he had informed the trainer prior to declaration time that he should declare a possible 2 lbs overweight. He said he was aware yesterday that he had a little weight to loose and had tried unsuccessfully to loose weight and felt that he would present himself at scales at 1 Ibs overweight. At this point the Stewards refused him permission to ride and allowed Mr. D. Allen to replace the rider. Arising from the evidence given by Mr. Murphy, it was decided to interview Finbarr Tierney, representing Ruaidhri Joseph Tierney to verify the evidence given. Mr. Tierney gave his evidence to the Stewards in the absence of Mr. Murphy who failed to present himself at this stage of the enquiry having been instructed to do so. Subsequently, the Stewards referred the matter to the referrals committee. Mr. James Kennedy. Acting Steward did not attend this enquiry.

078G Bulmers Cider (C & G) I.N.H. Flat Race

The Stewards interviewed Mr. L. Quinlan, rider of Cuneo (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.4 in that he had used his whip without giving his mount time to respond. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended the rider for 4 racedays and ordered that he attend R.A.C.E for 1 day's tuition on the correct use of the whip.
