Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Punchestown 2nd February 2014

022B INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice H'dle

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the back straight involving Real Steel, ridden by B.T. O'Connell, placed third, and Benrouge, ridden by R.M. Power, placed fifth, where it appeared Benrouge suffered interference and had to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion the interference was accidental in nature and they took no further action.

022C Pertemps H'cap H'dle

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Marlbrook, trained by C.A.Murphy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically normal post race.

M.P. Walsh, rider of Marlbrook, trained by C.A.Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was very free early but stopped quickly before the turn into the straight.

022E Glenfarclas P.P.Hogan Memorial S'chase

D.N. Russell, rider of Lord Hawkfield trained by J.P.Dempsey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount jumped poorly and was pulled up.

022F Free Trial At H'cap S'chase

The Stewards requested a report from Conor O'Dwyer, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Folsom Blue, winner, as compared with its recent most recent run at Thurles on the 16th January where he finished 8th of 16, beaten 46 lengths.
Mr O'Dwyer reported that his charge benefited from the significant step up in trip from 2m in Thurles to 3m 4f today and this may have brought about any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
