The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Enniskillen, trained by Peter Maher, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Enniskillen, ridden by Mr J.J. Codd and trained by Peter Maher. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Mr J.J. Codd, rider, stated that he was very familiar with this animal and intended to ride him in mid division and ride the race as he found it. He added that the poor performance was caused by a number of factors from flag fall to include being hampered at the first jump and being further back than intended. As the race progressed he was hampered again at the second fence and lost further ground at half way when two horses fell in front of him. He further added that his mount was hanging to the left throughout the race and made his customary respiratory noise during the race. He felt that the shorter trip of two and a half miles was sharp for him and accepted that his race was over when he was hampered on a few occasions. He made a point that this animal would not hang unless there was something not right with him. Peter Maher, trainer, stated that Tuesday's race may have taken it's toll on this animal and hanging today was not normal unless something was amiss as he always runs his heart out. He concurred with Mr J.J. Codd by claiming that the shorter trip and the ground conceded by being hampered on a few occasions left him with too much to do. He confirmed to the Stewards that Enniskillen would be withdrawn from tomorrow's engagement. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Enniskillen was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations but advised Mr J.J. Codd concerning his responsibility to report at first instance anything that may have affected a horses performance.

The Stewards enquired into the actions of G. Elliot, trainer of Labaik (Fr), before a fair start had been affected. G. Elliot admitted that he had followed his horse towards the starting line and tried to encourage him to start by shaking a hand held item. He apologised for his actions and stated that his charge had an amount of ability but had shown tendencies to refuse to race on a number of occasions. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that G. Elliot was in breach of R13 and cautioned him concerning his future conduct in this regard.

The Stewards enquired into the actions at the start of a staff member of W.P. Mullins, trainer, where he was observed trying to encourage Diakali (Fr) to start by continuously waving a lead rein from behind him. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr W.P. Mullins was in breach of R13 and cautioned him concerning his responsibility in this regard.

086E Tattersalls Ireland Champion Novice Hdle

The Stewards interviewed Mr P.W. Mullins, rider of Bacardys (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr P.W. Mullins was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive force and frequency and also R(10)(4) by failing to give his mount time to respond to the whip. Having taken his previous record into consideration the Stewards suspended Mr P.W. Mullins for 2 racedays.

086F Star Best Racing Champion Hunters Schase

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.L. Malone, that Mr R. Kavanagh, rider of Dantes King, had weighed in at 1.7lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had ridden at a lighter weight earlier but had a drink to rehydrate after weighing out for this race. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr R. Kavanagh was in breach of Rule 231 and having taken his previous record into consideration, suspended him for 2 racedays.
