The Stewards requested a report from P.J. Rothwell, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Pint Of Porter, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Mr Rothwell reported that they had been riding the horse by dropping him in and the rider the last day advised him to change tactics because he raced idly and jumped poorly when he was dropped in. Today, a change in tactics where he was ridden prominently, and a better round of jumping may have brought about any apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Stewards interviewed John Winston, rider of Crowded Room concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion John Winston was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (b) in that he had used his whip when his chance of being placed had clearly gone and having taken his good record into account, they cautioned him.
