The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Knockraha Pylon, ridden by R.M. Power, and trained by Adrian Maguire. Evidence was heard from Mr. Noel O'Brien, Senior National Hunt Handicapper, the rider and trainer concerned. Mr. O'Brien outlined the animals previous form and stated that this horse was a very consistent type with good form in the past over a variety of trips and ground conditions. R.M. Power, stated that his instructions were to settle his mount three quarters way back, race slightly wide in search of better ground and to do the best he could, bearing in mind that his mount had not raced for some time. He said he had never rode this horse before but was very happy with the way it settled and jumped and was satisfied that he had achieved his best possible placing without reverting to the whip, as he felt his mount was giving it's all and there was no need for this. He further added that his mount stayed on well and should benefit from a longer trip. Adrian Maguire, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He felt that his charge had given it's all and was happy that the rider had not reverted to using his whip. He stated that his charge was in a fit state to race today despite not appearing on the track for some time and felt annoyed to be questioned on the run. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, who stated that Knockraha Pylon was found to be post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered in relation to the running and riding of Knockraha Pylon. They did, however, find that the trainer was in breach of Rule 272 concerning his conduct in the Stewards room and having considered his previous record in this regard, they fined fined him €250.

331E Britain v Ireland(QR)Challenge Hcap Hdle

The Stewards interviewed Miss S. Larkin, rider of The Ballyboys, concerning her use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(b), in that she had continued to use her whip after her chance of winning or being placed had clearly gone. Having taken her previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards cautioned her.

The Stewards requested a report from John Joseph Hanlon, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Secrets Safe, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge had disappointed in Ludlow on its previous run when loosing interest despite wearing blinkers and a tongue tie and prior to that, had ran better than the result showed in Wexford, when running well before being headed in the latter stages and appearing to loose interest thereafter. He added that this horse is a difficult quirky type and in an attempt to rekindle his interest, he had removed both the blinkers and tongue tie and this in his opinion, had brought about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered and took no further action.
