L.P. Dempsey, rider of Dr Zoom, trained by J.R. Barry, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount accidentally clipped a heal in running.

The Stewards requested a report from Aengus King, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Change The Rules, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge disappointed on his penultimate start at Navan and ten days later was treated for a low grade infection. He added that the horse again ran poorly on his last start but in hindsight may not have been over his sickness. The trainer added that today's step up in trip suited his charge. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
