Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Leopardstown 27th December 2019

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting:

N.P. Madden rode Future Romance (reserve) , trained by Aidan Anthony Howard (Race 1)

355A Paddy Power 3-Y-O M'dn H'dle

The Stewards enquired into an incident where the runners met the running rail having jumped the third last hurdle involving Futurum Regem, ridden by E. Walsh, unplaced, Orlov, ridden by J.R. Wildman, a faller at this point, Theatre Of War, ridden by J.M. Moore, placed second, Tronador, ridden by K. Brogan, placed fourth and Cosmic Jazz, ridden by P.E. Corbett, unplaced, where it appeared that some of the horses ran short of room and Orlov fell as a consequence. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned and from the Clerk of the Course Lorcan Wyer. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that any interference that took place was accidental in nature and took no further action.

K. Brogan, rider of Tronador, trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference after the third last hurdle, lost his placing and made up a lot of ground from that incident to finish fourth.

E. Walsh, rider of Futurum Regem, trained by Hugh Paul Finegan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference after the third last hurdle and got unbalanced.

The Stewards interviewed J.M. Moore, rider of Theatre Of War, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that J.M. Moore was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended J.M. Moore for 2 racedays.

355D Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hdle

M.P. Walsh, rider of Blue Sari (FR) trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Blue Sari (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.

355E Paddy Power Games H'cap H'dle

The Stewards enquired into an incident where the runners met the running rail having jumped the third last hurdle involving Cliff House, ridden by C.A. Landers, unplaced, Future Proof, ridden by S.W. Flanagan, unplaced and Shumaker, ridden by D.J. O'Keeffe, unplaced, where it appeared that Shumaker ran short of room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that any interference that took place was accidental in nature and took no further action.

C.A. Landers, rider of Cliff House, trained by Mrs D.A.Love, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference which turned his mount sideways at the point of the track that met the running rail after the third last hurdle.

D.J. O'Keeffe, rider of Shumaker trained by Paul Traynor, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount which was involved in an incident after the third last hurdle was found to have lost a hind shoe and was possibly lame behind.

S.W. Flanagan, rider of Future Proof, trained by Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount got hampered where the hurdle track met the running rail after the third last flight.

355F Paddy Power S'chase

The Stewards requested a report from Gordon Elliott, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Roaring Bull, placed first, as compared with its recent run. Gordon Elliot reported that his charge has been very inconsistent and the application of blinkers at Navan the previous day lit him up and he ran too keen. They were applied again today because of his temperament but had the desired affect when settling well throughout the race and staying on with interest in the closing stages. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

J.M. Moore, rider of Killer Miller trained by Noel Meade, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having never travelled in this race.

The Stewards enquired into the late withdrawal (1.23 p.m) of Blazer, trained by W.P. Mullins. The trainer stated that he was not fully satisfied with his charge when his other runners were being dispatched from his premises this morning. He sought veterinary advice and at a later stage it was determined that Blazer was not fit to run. He assured the Stewards that alternative transport was available if his charge was fit to fulfill his engagement. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered as being valid and remitted the fine. Mr. Justice Tony Hunt, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. Justice Frank Clarke acted as Chairman of the Acting Stewards.

355G Paddy Power Games INH Flat Race

The Stewards interviewed Mr D. O'Connor, rider of Freedom To Dream (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr D. O'Connor was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency.
