Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Killarney 15th May 2018

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting:

R.P. Whelan rode Maid In Manhattan (reserve) , trained by A.J.Martin (Race 5)

112A Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) M'dn

Following the running of the first race, the Stewards enquired into the reason why there appeared to be an upright pole on the track at the end of the bend past the stands. Evidence was heard from Mr. T.V. O'Connell, Clerk of the Course and Mr P.L. Malone, Assistant Clerk of the Course. Mr. O'Connell, accepted full responsibility for the pole being inadvertently left in place and stated that it had been used as a marker pole for a start at the previous day's meeting and while it had been intended to have it removed prior to racing, this had not occurred despite him having walked the course as normal prior to racing. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action other than to advise that in future the Clerk of the Course arrange for a second person to walk the track after he has done so himself, to reduce the likelihood of a recurrence of today's incident.

Mr. Michael Doyle, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

112B Ir. Stallion Farms EBF Med Auc (F) Race

C.D. Hayes, rider of Every Breath trained by P.J.F. Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount veered sharply left on leaving the stalls and unseated him.

112C Pitchsupplies.ie M'dn

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Hawthorn Echo, trained by Peter McCreery, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be making an abnormal respiratory noise when examined post race.

112E Dublin Coach H'cap

The Stewards wished to interview James McAuley, trainer of Cardigan Street (USA), regarding the late arrival of the horse into the Parade Ring and other matters. As the trainer or an authorised representative was not present the Stewards heard evidence from Mr. G. Duff who saddled Mr. McAuley's two runners at today's meeting. Mr. Duff stated that he attended the meeting on his own which perhaps led to the horse being late into the parade ring. He stated that ordinarily Mr McAuley would be in attendance but on this occasion he could not attend due to an emergency. Evidence was further heard from IHRB Veterinary Officer, Ms. Nicola O'Connor, who stated that the runners were not washed down immediately after their respective races and were still blowing and sweating when returned to their boxes. They were also left unattended at times during the meeting. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards referred the matter to the Referrals Committee to consider the matter with regard to possible breaches of Rule 32 (ii), Rule 147(v), Rule 148 (i) and Regulation 9 (unattended horses).

Mr. Philip McLernon, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry.

112F Leane's Tool Hire H'cap

It was reported at a Stewards Enquiry that Important Message (GB), was found to have lost a shoe post race.

The Stewards requested a report from John Joseph Murphy, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Emperor Waltz (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent form. Mr. G. Murphy, Authorised Representative, reported that this horse doesn't appreciate very deep ground and today's ground on the easy side of good seemed to suit him. He also noted that the stable seems to be in better form latterly. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the contents of the report.
