029A Beginners S'chase

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Young Finnegan, trained by Robert Tyner, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have burst a blood vessel.

The Stewards interviewed Mr B. Browne, rider of Golden Boot, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr B. Browne was in breach of R10(3)(f) and R10(4) by using his whip with excessive frequency and by failing to give his mount time to respond. Consequently Mr B. Browne was suspended for 1 raceday having taken his good previous record into consideration.

029E Sea Moon & Shantou At Burgage M'dn H'dle

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Giant Spirit (USA), ridden by R. Loughran, and trained by Ms. Sandra Hughes. Evidence was heard from the trainer and rider concerned. Ms. Sandra Hughes, stated that this horse has been in her care since it was a yearling and was making his racecourse debut today on unsuitable ground but took his chance because of a lack of opportunities in the next few weeks. She added that she instructed the rider to give his mount a chance early on and ride him in mid division to get him to finish as best as possible. She knew that he would tire at some stage but was satisfied that the animal had done a lot of ground work. She further added that in her opinion the animal needs a better surface and should improve from today. She expressed her satisfaction with the ride. R. Loughran, confirmed the instructions and stated that he kept a hold of his animals head and was travelling as fast as possible down the far side of the course. He added that he jumped very well but flattened across the top of the track, blew up at that point but got a second wind and only stayed on past tired horses who had been in contention throughout. He further added that his mount was not in love with the ground but should be seen to better effect on a faster surface. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Giant Spirit (USA) was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

029F Live Music After Racing H'cap H'dle

John W. Nicholson, trainer of Ma Garrett, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 6th September that his charge has had a wind operation since this run.

Owing to ground conditions, the Stewards granted permission for fence #4 to be omitted from all steeplechases on todays card
