The Stewards requested a report from Shane Ryder, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Pateen, placed first, as compared with its recent run. The trainer reported that this animal disappointed at Listowel and was subsequently examined by the race course Veterinary Surgeon who found no abnormality on a post race endoscopic examination. Three days later his own Veterinary Surgeon found the animal to have an inflamed throat on endoscopic examination but did not prescribe any treatment.
