Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Galway 19th September 2017

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting:

J.A. Heffernan replaced W.M. Lordan on Pavlenko (JPN), trained by A.P.O'Brien (Race 5)(Intended mount was a non runner)

261B Donnellys Of Barna Rated Race

The Stewards enquired into an incident about one furlong from the finish involving Sister Blandina, ridden by D.P. Linehan, placed first and Ontheiflist, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed second, where it appeared that Sister Blandina drifted across the path of Ontheiflist. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.P. Linehan had ridden carelessly and therefore suspended him for 2 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration.

O.J. Orr, rider of The Tulip trained by Edward Lynam, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount met with trouble in running.

The Stewards enquired into an incident about 200 yards from the finish involving The Tulip, ridden by O.J. Orr, placed third and Dochasach, ridden by R.P. Cleary, placed fourth, where it appeared that The Tulip ran short of room when challenging on the inside of Dochasach. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned which included an admission by O.J. Orr that he took a chance going for a narrow gap. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that any interference was accidental in nature and took no further action.

261C James P. Cunningham Electrical H'cap

The Stewards requested a report from G. Webb, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Cosmic Symbol, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Gerry Murray on behalf of G. Webb reported that this gelding missed the break at Listowel and from thereon he never let himself down on the deep underfoot conditions. The run was most disappointing but a post race examination at home failed to find any abnormality. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report. Furthermore the Stewards fined G. Webb €130 for failing to lodge the appropriate authorisation form appointing Gerry Murray as his representative.

D.E. Sheehy, rider of Lucky Mistake, trained by Adrian Paul Keatley, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared up when the stalls opened, jumped sideways, put down her head and gave him no chance of staying in the saddle.

261D Ir.Stallion Farms EBF Med.Auct. (F) M'dn

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Aqtaar, trained by D.K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

261E Ardilaun Hotel Oyster Stakes

The Stewards enquired into the reason for the request for a change of rider from P.B. Beggy to W.M. Lordan on High Language trained by Jospeh Patrick O'Brien. Kieran Murphy, Authorised representative for Joseph Patrick O'Brien, stated that W.M. Lordan became available when he was replaced by J.A. Heffernan on Pavlenko (JPN) trained by A.P. O'Brien. He added that W.M. Lordan was familiar with High Language having ridden her previously but accepted that P.B. Beggy was a suitable rider if this situation had not arisen. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards informed Joseph Patrick O'Brien, through his representative, that the request was refused but every opportunity would be given for P.B. Beggy to present himself at scales in accordance with the provisions of Rule 196 (i). Subsequently, at 4.20 p.m. the Stewards were informed by the Clerk of the Scales that P.B. Beggy had failed to present himself to be weighed out by the appointed time. Consequently the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of High Language, fined P.B. Beggy €200 for being in breach of Rule 196 (v) by failing to present himself to be weighed out within the time fixed under sub paragraph (i) of Rule 196 and for failing to provide a satisfactory explanation to the Stewards.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Pearl Of The West, trained by P.A. Fahy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

261F Galway Apprentice H'cap

T.P. Madden, rider of Greanta trained by Thomas Cleary, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left during this race.

G.P. Brouder, rider of Alohamora trained by J.A. Nash, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount met with interference about two furlongs from the finish.
