337G Racing Returns Friday 8th Jan 2016 H'cap

The Stewards enquired into the riding of F.M. Berry rider of Turfjager (GER) prior to the start of this race where he hit his mount a number times and severely checked him when he had pulled up. F.M. Berry stated that his mount had bolted on the way to the start and that he had done well to get his feet in the irons before bringing his mount to a halt. He accepted that he had struck his mount a few times down the shoulder but only as a corrective and educational measure while he also checked him as he thought that he was about to start galloping again. He concluded by saying that he had ridden this gelding at exercise recently and did not experience any difficulty but going forwards he would not be riding this animal in the near future and furthermore that he was not a suitable ride for an inexperienced rider. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
