Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Dundalk 16th March 2018

046A CX+ Sport Claiming Race

The Stewards enquired into an incident rounding the home turn involving New Story (GB), ridden by S. Foley, Catchy Lass, ridden by C.J. McGovern, Carvelas, ridden by G.M. Ryan, and Mubtakker (GB), ridden by C.D. Hayes, where it appeared that interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

The Stewards interviewed A.J. Farragher, rider of Six Silver Lane (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that A.J. Farragher was in breach of Regulation 10.3 (f) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency and force, and Regulation 10.3 (g) in that he used his whip with his arm above shoulder height. Having considered his previous record in this regard, the Stewards suspended A.J. Farragher for 2 racedays and ordered that he attend R.A.C.E for 1 day's tuition on the correct use of the whip.

S. Foley, rider of New Story (GB) trained by Michael Butler, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount got tight for room at the bottom of the straight and was tiring at the finish.

046B BK Forklifts H'cap

C. O'Donoghue, rider of You Will Do For Me (USA) trained by P.D. Deegan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount finished distressed.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving Specific Gravity (FR), ridden by T.M. Sherry, placed second and Trump Card, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed first, where it appeared that Specific Gravity was bumped into in the straight and carried wide near the line. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Adrian McGuinness, trainer and master of T.M. Sherry. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Trump Card had caused interference and in doing so had improved his finishing position in relation to Specific Gravity. The Stewards therefore reversed the placings of the first two horses and took no further action.

The result now reads;
First Specific Gravity,
Second Trump Card,
Third Dixie Highway,
Fourth Nulife,
Fifth Sinndar Sandy,
Sixth Aegeus.

046F Kellihers Electrical H'cap

D.E. Sheehy, rider of Charmed Pearl trained by Lee Smyth, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran free early on and hung through out.

The Stewards requested a report from Joseph Patrick O'Brien, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Tagle, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Mr. M. Molloy, authorised representative of Joseph Patrick O' Brien explained that this was his charge's second run in blinkers and that he was ridden more aggressively by a more experienced rider which aided his charge on this occasion. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

046H Crowne Plaza Race and Stay H'cap

The Stewards interviewed D.P. Linehan, rider of Glenmoore (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.P. Linehan was in breach of Regulation 10.3 (g) in that he used his whip with his arm above shoulder height. Having considered his record in this regard, the Stewards suspended D.P. Linehan for 2 racedays.
