Mr M.J. The Stewards fined Miss Suzy Barkley, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Rock On Westie, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

Mr D.G. Lavery, rider of Illuminati (FR), trained by B. R. Hamilton, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle the heavy ground conditions.

R.C. Colgan, rider of Nendrum, trained by S.R.B. Crawford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount cocked his jaw and refused to race.

340E Dark Horse Wine Bar M'dn H'dle

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.W. Murtagh, regarding the failure of A.W. Short, rider of Danielle's Journey (GB), placed second, to weigh in after this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that it was a complete oversight on his part. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Danielle's Journey (GB) and suspended A.W. Short for 5 racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee for being in breach of Rule 227. Amended result: Conright Boy placed first, Bel Ami De Sivola (FR) placed second, Steamboat Bill placed third and Ontopoftheworld placed fourth.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Lip Service, ridden by S.A. Shortall, and trained by A.J.Martin. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer's representative concerned. S.A. Shortall, stated that he was instructed to ride mid division and to do his best. He added that he had his desired position until losing some ground at the fourth last. He hit his mount a couple of backhanders after the third last but knew he had a tired horse by the second last and despite being in contention for a minor placing at the final hurdle, the gelding had no more to offer before tiring in the final 75 yards. He described his mount as being a light framed individual who would possibly need better ground rather than todays bottomless conditions. Paul Gray, Authorised representative for A.J.Martin, stated that there was a doubt about running this animal because of the ground conditions but allowed him to take his chance after much discussion. He added that he was satisfied with the ride but disappointed that the animal stopped so quickly and consequently had him scoped but no abnormality was found. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Lip Service was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Furthermore, the Stewards received confirmation from Paul Gray that he was a long time Authorised representative for A.J. Martin but the records available today did not show a current registration. The Stewards referred this matter to the Turf Club for further investigation.

Owing to ground conditions, the Stewards granted permission for fence number 5 to be omitted from all steeplechases.
