Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Clonmel 11th January 2018

006A Kilsheelan (Mares) M'dn H'dle

The Stewards fined Henry de Bromhead, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Cool Saint (FR), in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

The Stewards enquired into the start of this race after evidence was made known to them after the "winner all right" signal that Devine Star was not in the line up when the race was started. Evidence was heard from Mr. P.F. Graffin, IHRB Starter, Cathal Landers, rider of Devine Star and John Patrick Ryan, trainer of Devine Star. Subsequent to this enquiry, the Stewards heard further evidence from Cathal Landers, rider, Mr P.L. Malone, IHRB Clerk of the Scales and Mr A. Mulrany, Assistant to the Clerk of the Scales. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards referred the matter to the CEO of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board.

The Stewards enquired into an incident after the turn into the straight on the run to the second last hurdle involving Pietralunga (FR), ridden by D.J. Mullins, placed first, Castaliera, ridden by A.W. Short, unplaced and Trumps Ace, ridden by M.P. Burke, placed fourth, where it appeared that Trumps Ace may have been tight for room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

C.A. Landers, rider of Devine Star trained by John Patrick Ryan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not take part in this race as the mare was at a different part of the track when the race was started.

006B Lisronagh H'cap H'dle

D.E. Splaine, rider of Dollydeschamps trained by Daniel G. Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having made a mistake at the second hurdle and lost her action.

006C Munster H'dle

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Poli Roi (FR), trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported that the animal made an abnormal respiratory noise when examined post race.

The Stewards interviewed D.J. McInerney, rider of Ministerforsport, trained by Noel W. O'Neill, concerning his riding in the closing stages of this race where he appeared to stop riding and subsequently lost third place. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he was holding onto nothing on the home turn and having checked for any challengers at that point, he did not check again until halfway between the final hurdle and the winning post. He admitted that he had declined applying any pressure to his mount as the gelding was tired but admitted that he should probably have finished third. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.J. McInerney was in breach of Rule 212 A (iv). Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended D.J. McInerney for 5 racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee.

006D Monroe M'dn H'dle

B. Hayes, rider of Kilcross Lad trained by John O. Clifford, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount whipped around at the start and unseated him after a fair start had been affected .

A. Ring, rider of Western Ruler trained by M.F.Morris, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly to the left during this race.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Cote Tete (FR) trained by Noel Meade was noted to have lost a near fore shoe when observed post race.

006E Tipperary H'cap H'dle

D.N. Russell, rider of Misty Millie trained by Garvan Donnelly, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was off the bridle early.

P.T. Enright, rider of Rebel Ace trained by W.J. Burke, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having never travelled during this race.

The Stewards requested a report from G.T.Lynch, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Rock On Barney, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge had raced at Limerick with a tongue strap and cross noseband fitted but ran very disappointing. Today those attachments were left off and cheek pieces were applied which appeared to have a positive effect. He further stated that his charge had shown a liking for this course having been placed here on two previous occasions. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Zipporah trained by Miss Denise Marie O'Shea was noted to have lost a left fore shoe when observed post race.
